Is 7 grand a fair price for and R1 that needs paint, and a rebuild? thanks in advance

 

That depends on how much extra cash you have around to spend putting it back on the road.

Sometimes those "fixer-uppers" can end up costing more than if you just bought one that was already running and in good shape.

 

It all depends on what you see in the future of the vehicle. I purchased a 3rd' Gen that needed an engine rebuild, and alot of other parts, in which I have already spent alot of money on. I purchased my vehicle for $7000, but then I had to purchase $6500 worth of parts. The $6500 was the Engine, Power FC + Commander, a list of reliability parts, exhaust, fuel system, bushings, toe rods, and a bunch of other little things. the vehicle also needs a paint job, but it still looks good ( to me I guess )... It's what you see yourself with in the end that matters.

As Far as $7000, well test drive it of course. See how it feels. You said it need an engine, so don't really worry about the boost or vacuum. Well worry about the vacuum if you see less then 16 pounds. If the interior is in bad shape, you would be able to pick up most of the replacement fixtures for a resonable price. There's some more things to consider, but they are common sense and you could basically price th replacment in your head ( for example: battery, radiator cap, etc...) Don't rush into it what ever you do. There is alot of decent RX7 for sale on this forum from people who usually take care of the vehicles. You can expect to drop $14000-$20000 but it's worth it if you don't really want to bother with all the work involved in making these cars exquisite. If you want a car were you choose your aftemarket parts and put some blood sweat and tears in, then pick up the vehicle. One thing you can count on is, what ever you choose you will be purchasing a one of a kind beautiful vehicle. That's just my 4 cents.... Good Luck!!!

Sorry, I misspoken... Worry about the boost. The last thing you want to do is replace the Engine and Turbo's. If that was the case, purchase the vehicle for $3500-$4000. That's all.

 

thank you both for your replies. The car is not running, and when it was had a 2-0-2 boost ratio. Besides that it also needs some interior plastics. whadda yous think?

 

I say you can get a better body for less and spend a good 6-7 and get it running and some decent mods. I wouldn't spend that much on 93 that needs paint and an engine...A friend of mine picked up a body without drivetrain or engine and spent 5. Paint was decent but had a dent in the rear quarter panel. Not sure how much it would be to fix it but not much. I say hold out.

 

thanks. this one appealed to me because of location.I don't have to much free time to be looking at cars up and down the east coast or wherever. My plan was to sleep on it, and see what happens tomorrow.

 

will he take less for it make him a lower offer

He will have a hell of a time getting rid of it at that price...He will come down more.
