1994 38,700 miles, touring pckg, red, tan leather, 5 speed. asking $17,500.

I took it for a spin and drove nice (pulled to the left pretty bad). But when I got back I smelled coolant pretty bad and the garage floor had coolant all over it (puddle the size of a dinner plate).

Thoughts?

I wussed out and passed on the car. I've read too many horror stories about those cars and overheating problems.

Good job on the pass up. It shouldn't leak coolant like that but it could have been a simple fix. Who knows.

 

My concern was how long it had been leaking coolant and how often in its life time it was overheated? Who knows what kind of damage it had already sustained?

 

From what you're saying, the motor either dead or on it's way.

 

Wait, did the ADD COOLANT light ever come on?

 

No, it ran fine (well, exhaust rattle, weak brakes, and it pulled to the left).

I did hear a mechanical clicking noise when I accelerated hard in 3rd gear (sounded like it was coming from under the passenger seat). Any ideas on that?

 

Likely to be a loose heat shield.
