Was it a good deal?

I just recently bought a 93 RX-7 touring with 80k miles on it. I drove it before i bought it and it runs good, but then again i know very little about rotary engines. I was just wondering how long the cars usually go before they need a rebuild, from everything i've read on this site i'm getting a little scared that 80k is up there for a 7. Any info would be good. Also how do i know if it's in good shape, same as a regular piston engine? Compression check enough?? Thanks for the help

compression check is a good start, then get a boost gauge if it doesn't have one yet and see what you're running there, too.

80 k

80 k is up there. You may want to rebuild before an apex seal breaks, it could save you a g wiz in rebuild costs.

get a compression check at a rotary specialist or a mazda dealer. there is a special machine they use especially for rotaries. start by looking through http://www.robrobinette.com which has a great deal of useful information. 80k is a lot but there are plenty more with 30k to 40k more. most 3rd gens that are daily driven are starting to get up there. don't replace anything until you get definitive answers to the current state of your car. if compression and boost pattern is fine, your car is probably in decent shape. 3rd gens have plenty of little problems but there are plenty of internet resources to help you as well.
