start with the basic 60k+ mile maintenance procedures, perform all the necessary checks for the issues you have right now, and one by one fix each issue.
The Nissan RB motors do weight that much. The JZ's I see now weigh more like 500lbs wet.

From where you are at, there is plenty of support for the car. One good shop (is kind of far) that can take care of your car is IRP in New Jersey

As always Ben is on the ball. The rx7 layout is easy to work on with the exception of accessing the sparkplugs if you have ac and ps.

Also Audis are a pain to work on. Im glad i didnt buy one.

kind of in the same situation you are man....i have been in love with FD's since my buddy picked his up about 6 years ago and i said i want that car. finally got mine a couple months back and got a great deal on it...but thats besides the point. there isnt nothing wrong with owning a rotary...you have a 1.3L that when built proper could walk a v-8 anyday....its "the ultimate driving machine" for a reason just look under the hood. consider this forum your bible. almost anything and everything is here all you have to do is just search and if you having trouble post the noob thread up get flamed a little but somebody will guide you in the right direction. my vote says keep the rotary!

BUT......

at the end of the day its your money to do what you want with it.

The rotary is not made out of paper clips and fairy dust, its a proven design that works. It's talked badly about by people who know absolutely nothing about it and probably struggle to change their own oil.

The only thing you need to know is doing the reliability mods, inspection of car for current problems, compression test, get your injectors cleaned. Replace all your fluids, your fuel filter, FPD, check your wiring, get rid of pre-cat if you have one. Make sure your water temps are not too high since you can't trust the stock gauge.

Don't mod the car until you really understand what you're doing, as this is the #1 reason for engine failures. Ignorant owner + mod = "this engine sucks" opinions, when it should be "i did a dumb thing and need something to blame so I don't have to admit it to myself".

Good luck resisting the mental shortcut of doing an engine swap.
One of the best post I've read in years!

IIRC $650 from the initial gb, but I opted for the plug and play wire harness +$50, and thicker polycarbonate lenses +$100. Very happy with them now but at first I was very disapointed.

and i havent fully made up my mind. i was just giving the price of how much it would cost. and rotary res wants 2100 to do a rebuild on my motor
You know its your car and if you dont love the rotary so why spend the money? Spend it on something you have a passion for so at least the end game will be the reward.

yea what is the point in people asking for suggestions when you give them a suggestion and they try to manipulate it or try to turn it around. what happens if the 1jz gets a leak or starts to over heat or a belt breaks or you have to change the oil???? maintenance is something everyone goes thru weather its a lawnmower, a 1 trillion dollor bugatti, a airplane or even getting your hair cut.
Everything requires maintenance.
