Question is it a good choice?

i went and looked at a mint 93 rx-7(black) yesturday. It has 70k miles on it, runs good, the only thing is that it idles high at start up. he is asking 13500 for the car. I am just now learning about rotories, it looks well maintained. What do you all think> thanks.

The price seems good but

When I got mine it was a 93 touring with 59K on the odometer with a greddy SP catback exhaust and a greddy turbo timer. I got it for $15,900. Did the original owner did any mods to the car and check if the car got any turbo timer because this should tell if the turbo is proper taken car of. If you knows any good rotary mechanic have him look at the car thoroughly. Have the car been into any accidents or any bodyworks done to the car. Buying a used rotary showing signs of engine failure related could leads to a rebuilt engine or possibly a new motor. Definitely have a compression test done, this will tells you if the motor is bad or good. If you have any questions please feels free to email me at advant_wide_body@yahoo.com I will be more than happy to help you. Good luck!

Fast idle on start- it is supposed to

On a cold start the idle is set to 3000 rpm to ligh up the precat.

A fast idle on a cold start means the owner hasn't modified the car not to do this. It does not mean someting is wrong. It is a crazy emmisions thing that many people disable.

In order to pass cold start tests (a federal certification thing) a turbo engine typically needs an extra cat which starts catelizing early. To fire it off, the engine idles at 3K when cold.

It should kick down when you touch the throttle and shift into gear.

go to that site, pretty good guide, but dont forget the compression check, he should be glad to pay for one if you are going to buy the car.
