Get a new car or pickup an RX-7?

I am in the looks of getting a new car and I've test driven the 350z multiple times and was really intersted in getting one of them, but I've always loved the look of the FD's. Now, I see that most FD's go for around 12-13k and of course most Z's go for around 24-25k used. I've also heard that FD's are NOT reliable for daily driving cars and that gas mileage is even worse. Because of this, I started looking for an LS1 RX7, but is very difficult to come around, plus, I would like the have a car with stock turbo's on it already so I can work on the engine.

I just wanted to know all of your thoughts on your FD's. What do I need to look for to find a reliable FD engine for daily driving, what are things I need to be aware of when looking for an FD, and what's the average mpg you guys are getting with your FD if you drove economically trying to get the best mpg you could get (maybe staying out of boost)

Topic's been covered a GAZILLION times. Search for "reliable" (LOL) and "daily driver." Probably about HALF the threads in this section are dedicated to that SAME question...

If you like the 350z then I suggest go with that. If you want a car that isn't easy on the kidneys but loads of fun to drive and not practical, go with the FD.

I use my FD as my daily so yeah it can be done.

Its just a matter of where your intrests lie.

Me I want performance and a car that I rearly see. But I'm saving up for a lexus as a daily driver. Automatic, leather, bitchin sound system. Just for those days when I don't want to run around with my hair on fire.

Go test drive an FD but remember what little space you have, and yeah it helps if you love to work on your car. There are little things that need to be done every so often.

with gas you spend and costs of repair it'll be about the same to buy a z over the fd. thats no exaggeration, fixing a boost problem (very common problem) can cost you $500 and thats assuming your turbos are still good and its only the solenoids and hoses that are faulty. but go ahead and buy an fd and then put it on the market for cheap when you run into problems, i meet a lot of guys like that. the only ones that keep an fd for a long time are the people that don't ask these questions in the first place and already know what they're getting into.

Like the others said, search for things like "reliable" and "daily driver". It should be quite obvious how different these three vehicles are.

Didn't you post here awhile back that you wrecked your RX8?? As for staying off boost, I do believe that is impossible.

BTW the car I bought was in great running order and Ive already blown through a grand (AST, Power FC, bushings and a drivers side headlight cover, I figure only about $9000 more to go ) . My point is, have some extra money that you can spend on things you want done and more importantly things you need done.

Although both of these cars are sportscars, they are in entirely different markets. Usually you sould be considering a used s2k, 350z, etc. These are more like a 300zx or supra turbo. You will pay the price for rarity, almost too uncomprimising technology, and the 10+ years of wear and tear on these vehicles. Make sure you are thinking rationally, not by emotion alone.
