Gearbox/PPF brace
When I bought my car, it had a pile of parts in the back which I didn't pay much attention to at the time, but I was looking for something in the storeroom last night and came across this (pic attached). It looked like some kind of brace so I got under my car (which happened to be on stands ) and tried to find a home for it. Turns out it replaces the factory aluminium tranmission tunnel brace near the rear of the gearbox, but also mounts to the gearbox/PPF. So it effectively becomes a rear engine/gearbox mount.
I installed it today and went for a drive and wow what a difference! even just sitting in the car you can feel there is a lot less 'slop' in the gearchange, and it really makes shifting a lot faster and more precise when your moving. The car felt a lot tighter too, with better throttle response when i got on and off the power. I get a lot less clunks from my (very tight) diff when cornering too.
There is now a few vibrations just off idle, and you get a nice gearbox whine especially at low speeds (sounds like a straight-cut! :P) Also I can hear my twin-plate clutch chatter which I didn't used to hear.
Has anyone else got one of these? I'd be interested to know who actually made it. If they are hard to come by and theres some interest I can probably make up some copies for a reasonable price.
cheers,
Rob.
ps. apologies for the crappy picture, I took it with my phone in bad light

vosko : any idea who makes it?
rxrotary : I'm trying to picture how your brace fits under the car.... does it bolt to the rear end of the PPF and run forward along the tunnel and bolt to the floorpan?
