Gearbox/Clutch noise
Hey all,
Just wondering where this noise is coming from... sounds like something spinning in the gearbox. When the clutch is out (in any gear) the noise comes but when the clutch is in the noise stops.
I rang some rotary mechanic, he said it was some sort of shaft that's making that noise, I can't remember what sort of shaft he said!
Also I need to replace my stock clutch. The mech said I should replace it with a factory clutch instead of an aftermarket one because it last longer. Is this true or should i go with an aftermarket one?
The mech said he can fix the shaft while replacing the clutch. Does anyone know roughly the price of each part? or which one is more expensive?

Yeh that's the name of it, throw-out bearing! So it comes set with a clutch? Is it a bigger job to fix than the fixing a clutch?
Still wondering if the genuine mazda fd clutch is more durably than an aftermarket clutch??? And what are some pros and cons of both types of clutches.. thnx

Replacing the throw-out bearing is not a bigger job than replacing the clutch. In both cases, you need to drop the transmission and that's the only hard part. Once that's down, you have access to both the clutch and the throw-out bearing for replacement.
The stock clutch is good for about 300rwhp. Usually when people start getting that kind of power on thier cars, the clutch begins to slip. Puck type clutches are the ones you hear about when people complain about driving aftermarket clutches on the street. They are great for drag racing but you have to REALLY love your car to enjoy driving those types of clutches around town. The ACT Street/Strip seems to be the most popular clutch upgrade. It has an OEM feel but holds a lot more power.
