My car is pretty much stock right now. I'm going to get a boost and temp gauge. I think I'm gonna buy a flyrx7 pod so I don't have to take a dremel (of which I don't even own) to the pod. I figure something like an egt gauge would be nice to have for once I start modding anyway, but I want some opinions before I drop a rediculous amount of money on gauges.

The three gauges I feel are most important with this car:

Boost/Vacuum, EGT, Water Temp

If he's mostly stock, I don't think an EGT would be worth it.
IMHO, Boost and Water (or Oil) Temp.

this topic is brought up a lot here and there are always different responses. boost and water temp are usually all u need. and some others will recommend egt or A/F.. if u're running close to stock ^ all u'll see with a EGT or A/F is your fd running rich.. lol

Those gauges are a complete waste of money. Though they do make for a nice light show. They go of the narrowband stock sensor and therefore aren't accurate.
Now if you're talking about a wideband fuel ratio gauge that's different. Of course you're looking at several hundred dollars to have a setup like that, and even then for a mildly modified car it isn't worth the money.

1)Boost
2)Water temp
3)Oil temp or oil pressure

IMO the 3 most important gauges are boost, water temp, and fuel pressure. Those are the 3 most important systems...but again, my opinion.

*EGT is nice to have for tuning purposes but is otherwise near worthless IMO.

*A/F gauges are worthless as pointed out.

*Oil temp is not necessary for street driving, but I consider it necessary for track driving.

*Oil pressure...the stock gauge is good enough for me.

*Fuel pressure is an ok 3rd choice.

*To me, a wideband o2 setup with a gauge would be the best choice for 3rd gauge for a street driven FD that will be modified over time.

I will be running boost, water temp, oil temp and wideband o2.....but still deciding on what brand to get..all I have now is the innovate wideband, also deciding if I need the boost since I have the commander and boost controller that already shows boost ...

Er, I should say that in ideal circumstances, a wideband o2 for the third gauge, but I thought those were a bit pricey? Hence my fuel pressure gauge as number 3....

Relying on the PFC Commander as your sole boost gauge is NOT a good idea, IMO. The digital boost reading is too hard to follow, not to mention the fact that the PFC Commander boost reading is INACCURATE (reads low), and becomes more inaccurate the higher in boost you go.

down the road i'm looking at a full exhaust back to the turbo, intake, intercooler, and some form of engine management...not sure what boost i'll be running or if i'll have upgraded fuel system components to let me run higher boost levels or what.

but the general consensus is water temp/boost/fuel pressure? I obviously have no use for an afr meter right now but i may buy a wideband down the road. oh and i will be tracking this car, though probably not very often and it will probably see more auto-x then track days.

I had boost, a/f (waste of time, space, and money as others have stated), oil temp (which you also don't really need unless your a track guy), and fuel pressure...I just got rid of my dual a-pilar pod and now only run the defi bf fuel pressure and boost guage in the center channel pod. IMO those are the only two you need for your purposes...and if you don't have a pfc/commander to monitor water temps then thats a great gauge choice as well
