Gauge lights and Tail lights went out - HELP!!

Hey Fellas,

I installed a turbo timer this morning. It was a xmas gift from my bro - I was really contemplating on installing it or selling it but it came with the harness as well.

Anyways, after installing the TT and got it properly working, I went to the store and my tail lights and my instrument gauge lights stopped working

My headlights, turn signals, and everything else works

I did some searches on it and came up with possible solutions but I still need to test them since it's already dark out tonight:

-TNS - how do I test this relay if it's the source of the problem -I just switched the two blue relays to see if it was the TNS and still no lights

- Possibly nicked a wire or something while installing the harness, but it shouldn't affect the tail lights though right?

- also notice that the ashtray light is not working

I found a bunch of threads when i did the search but I think it has something to do with the ignition somewhere since that was the only area I was working in.

Now I have a project for New Year's Day....

Thanks in advance for any input or suggestions you guys/gals might have!!!

if it came with a harness than what did you have to splice? im assuming that you had to splice something since you said you might have nicked a whire, but check all the fuses, both under the hood and under the dash by the clutch pedal.

I didn't have to spilce into anything.. the harness was a plug and play thing, but because of the the tight fit underneath the steering column, I'm afraid that I might have pulled or nicked something in the process...

I knew that TT was gonna be trouble!!!

had the same problem,
it was only a fuse, (fusebox in the car)
or maybe a loose contact underneath the fuse
it was a 20A fuse

I checked and rechecked all the fuses and none are blown.
I have no power on my ashtray light and that 's where my boost gauge and Water temp lights are powered through. I was reading this thread https://www.rx7club.com/3rd-generation-specific-1993-2002-16/help-wanted-if-you-know-basic-electrical-662504/ and tried to ground the wires that were mentioned and no luck.

Since the only place I worked on before this sh*t happened was the ignition area (installing the Greddy TT ignition harness) , is there anything in that particluar area that affects the lights? I checked the Factory Wiring Diagram and there is nothing in there that affects those lights.

I appreciate all you guys input...

the only thing i can think of, and take with caution because ive been drinkign is if you had the column hood off its possible you nicked the lines leading to the light switch. check them and see if theres a short.

bumping this thread because I have the exact same problem... all the fuses are fine, I didn't mess with anything, and then one day, gauge cluster backlights and tail lights went out. WTF? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Happened to me. No tail lights, dash lights, or the orange marker lights up front. Water got into the relays up front by the radiator and toasted them. Maybe check those.

Which relays are you talking about? My car is parked outside so that's certainly a possibility.

Pop the hood open and close to where the hood latch is is a fuse box full of relays. I beleive its the one where is has the initials TNS.

I apologize but I should've posted my results. I really never knew what the problem was on mine but after checking all the wires etc... I beleive that the dimmer wire switch was loose. All my relays worked fine but still no light... After tinkering and making sure all the wires were plugged, it all of a sudden worked. My guess was the dimmer switch wire was loose. Good luck...

Thanks. I'll check the relay and also check all connections.

BTW, you're a Chelsea fan, huh? :p I'm a huge Man United fan.

You can actually switch the two relays (they're the same ones) to see if it works...

Yes sir I am a blues fan!!!
Its great though to see americans being fans of the EPL... so do you think Man U will pass up Arsenal to take the EPL?

I just did exactly that and it didn't work... so it's not the relay. Anyone got any ideas?

I think we will! We have a game in hand and are only 2 points down, so I think we're in good shape. I'm worried about the blues catching up, though, as you guys are playing pretty well in the Prem and are only 3 points down from us. Looks like it'll be a great finish to the season with 3 teams in the race.
