Gauge Cluster Dead- Need Help

I have searched 15 years of threads and could not find any specific help, so hear goes....

I removed gauge cluster to test some other ones in my 97 RHD. Original cluster was working fine before. Each of the 3 I tested would have odometer reading showing with ignition on, but once started, no odometer, tach , Speedo, Oil, temp. Nothing. I assumed all three where bad, but put original back in and get the same thing. Nothing working.

I have scoured car, checked fuses, relays and wiring.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Does one of the clusters have the stock boost gauge? I know that cluster needs an extra ground to work right.

I would also totally disconnect the battery and let the whole system discharge - maybe even hold the brake pedal down with the battery disconnected for 10-20 seconds. That will discharge all the capacitors.

Some of the cluster electronics seem to involve voodoo for no good reason .

Something is shorting out. have you tested the pins of the plug coming from the harness that gives you power when the car is on? What happens when you turn the lights on? Clean all contacts and also remove the cluster's light bulb to clean the contacts. Dont forget to inspect and clean the ribbon of the cluster. Be careful with the ribbon as you may know it is delicate.
Good luck..!
