Gathering intel on 3rd gen RX-7 to buy

Hi guys,

First off I checked around a bit, and searched, but I did not find the info I was looking for. Im looking for what options were available and what the different packages represent. Basically, I always find out that I could have bought this better package for my car that I would have liked better than the slower, less sportier model. I was also looking for what available gear ratio's the cars would have and TT setup vs na yada yada yada. I want to buy the best hopefully unmodded TT RX I can find!

Ive been reading at all the good and bad problems, and it seems like theres some work to be done on purchasing a good RX-7. Any helpful links/pointers?

I will be looking around for a good mechanic to help me with my journey, but its a bit tough as Im in NH. Not much in the import tuning scene that I know of around here.

Any help would be much appreciated, and if there is a webpage for this info I apologize as I did not find it in my quest of long searching.

I might finally be able to get the car I always dreamed of since I was 16 and first saw one!

Thanks,
JR

First off- All 3rd gen Rx-7's have twin turbos.
The R models (R1 R2) have no sunroof, a factory front strut bar, dual oil coolers, no cruise controll, cloth seats, and more headroom (due to no sunroof)
All the models have the same motor, same HP, and are all just as fast (until you look at weight loss, on R models for example)

Good pointers: Check the newbie thread, its a sticky, at the top of the 3rd gen tech section.
ALL the info you need is on this site, you didnt look hard enough.

I dont think that would be entirely true. Most people seem to trap on average 14.1-14.2 in the 1/4 mile on automatic touring models, whereas an R1 (which is only manual) will usually do around 13.8-13.9.

IIRC the auto FDs also have a lower redline then the manual FDs. But that was something I may have read on the forums a while back.

Ludeowner, yes, the Auto's are slower, I completely forgot because I still cant figure out why this car was cursed with an automatic tranny.
And yes, the auto redline is about 500 RPM lower (I think)
