FYI: Boost issues? It might be a weak battery...

I was having all kinds of low boost or no boost issues recently. Over the last couple of months I noticed a gradual decrease in boost. Last week I was actually getting 0-2 psi at WOT! I didn't know what the problem was.

After a weekend of not driving my car I(I was snowboarding-and we all know that you can't take an rx7 to the snow!) I tried to start my car on Monday morning. The sucker wouldn't turn over! I got a pitiful 'click-click'. But the headlight and the radio turned on and I checked to make sure I didn't leave anything on(i.e. head lights, etc.) So I tried it agian and It barely started. I was able to drive to work but with very little hp. I couldn't get the sucker to rev over 4000 rpm.

Anyway, I thought it was my alternator again. Since, just before my car died due to a bad alternator, the car was also sluggish.' Had the alternator checked, and found that I had a bad battery.

So after changing my battery with a brand-new and larger battery. My boost came back! It feels like a new car! I guess the solenoids weren't getting enough 'juice/amps' from my weak battery! I had the old one checked when I returned it to Kragen for my deposit. The guy said it wasn't dead but it was really week: 415 Cold Cranking Amps vs. 675-750 CCA's on the new battery.

I just thought this might be helpful to somebody out there suffering with an under boosting rx7....

i don't think it's your battery. your battery is only for starting the car and that's about it. after that the alternator creates the voltage necessary to run all the accessories. in fact, it's usually creates a higher than needed voltage in order to recharge the battery all the time as the car is running. it sounds more like you had an intermittent connection or something.

i've jumped my little odyssey battery plenty of times when it was down to between 8-9 volts. this qualifies as 0% charge in the oddysey specifications. i still got boost fine after jumping the car.
