Funny story about the BNR Stage 3s....
Tonight I took my bud alan for a ride. He's owned an FD for many years and has put about 120,000 miles on his, so he is very familiar with the cars. My motor has around 360 miles on it, so I'm still on low boost and keeping the rpms reasonable.
We went out for a spin, and he was very impressed. He commented on how quickly I got boost and how fast the car felt at the rpm and boost I was running (6 psi and below 4500 rpms). He has a set coming next and was pretty excited.
We stop to get gas, and I pop the hood to check the oil. Alan is saying how nice my polished alternator looks, when he stops in mid-sentence. I look over and his eyes are bugging out of his head. He says "your rat's nest....where's your rat's nest?? Holy crap, you mean you're running NON SEQUENTIAL???" At this point he started to dance a jig, b/c he's getting the same turbos in the mail soon.
Just thought I'd share

cool
does the motor still get pretty hot??
one big thing that made me glad i went single is how much cooler it seems to be under the hood. there was a marked difference when i went to non-sequential and another difference when i went single.
i guess you cant really get a good grasp of that til you get to run the car hard though....

Hehe...Just wait till Steve tunes it this weekend. Beware of the non-seq BNR'S. I'm still amazed by how freely the compressor spins. Much better than stock. Do I smell mid-400's at the wheels??? Can't wait till we can get a pretty little dyno slip on the car. All of us single turbo guys better watch our backs!!

All I need is comparison graphs between the GT35/40 and the BNR twins, they're starting to sound like a possibility...they're smoggable in CA too right?
P.S. Fookntite, why do you have an efini badge crossed out for your avatar?

Mine is in this thread.
Also, Rich got a clip so his should make more. I've got more power in my tuning and think I can safely get to the 425ish range.....with the clip and I think larger engine porting he'll prob hit 450ish....we'll just have to wait and see
Rich....hurry and put some miles on that baby!!!! You dont know what you missing haha I got sideways the other night from a 65kick in 3rd gear

Non they are set up in full NON seq at 1.14 psi of boost according to the Power FC (or 17-18 on the gauge which is always a little higher than the PFC).
Also, I'm running very rich down low, over the next couple weeks I'll be playing with the fuel and timing down low and it should make even more power on the bottom end.
These turbos spool up nicely!!!

You know, I had the old BNRs with carbon seals running non-seq and they were laggy. I set the car back up sequential (rat's nest and all) so I could get response out of the turbos and he comes out with these dynamic seal twins that get the same response as the the stock sequential system. I love sequential, but hate everything about the rat's nest and reliability. Rich, you think 368 rwhp was fast - you'll be going sideways in 4th gear - Y O U S U C K! ... still trying to locate a rear-end off a junk FD so I can put down some numbers.

So, what is their efficiece range? Are they limited to 17ish psi, or is there more to be gotten out of em?
Hey stephen, did you do anything to the exaust manifold itself? Or the y-pipe connections, etc? What i'm wondering is if you port matched everything, or had the lower intake extrude honed etc? Thanks, CJ

Well, I believe Brian did port match the lower intake manifold ports where they mate up to the newly ported engine intake ports. Other than that no other porting has been done. Really, even that wasnt much porting, he basically just made the exiting port of the lim the same shape as the engines intake port.
Nothing fancy or anything.

Well, they did according to another dyno but it was a Dynomite. This run was done on a dynojet and with me knowing the operator and watching over him like I did, I feel like this is probably more accurate.
Dyno's are only as accurate as the info given to them. After this dyno I feel like the other one must have had some bad info put into it.
Steve Kan (Pluto) drove my car for quite a while and said it felt just like his car on pump gas or maybe even a hair faster. He makes 430 on pump but has about 200lbs worth of roll cage. This would come out to be really close to this 412rwhp dyno reading. I'm sure had it been making 465 like the other dyno suggested he probably would have felt the difference. We also took some very UNscientific readings like timing a 65-140mph run and comparing it to a video of a car making the same run with 400-410 and they were VERY close.
Anyway, I've got some more tuning to do and I think I'll be up around 430rwhp when its all said and done. I think uncliped like mine are the eff rage is toped out around 18ish psi due to backpressure. Steve is going to tune a set on Rich's car with a nice clip to relieve some back pressure. He might be able to squeeze 450+ out of those. We'll just have to wait and see!!!! That will prob be a couple weeks.
