ok, I finally got a commander in, and for obvious reasons, its still having issues. But, it does show that I can access the settings which is good, but I'm afraid to touch 'em. I have noticed that my air temps go haywire and drop to like -31 C then back up. My air temps have also reached around 62 C, and I'm wondering if this is normal.

Not sure if I mentioned it before, but on initial start up it goes up to 3k for 5 seconds, then goes back to a normal idle, granted the air temp isn't all screwy. If the air temp is showing a negative value, the idle surges below 1000 rpm and likes to bog out if I don't give her a little gas.

I called XS engineering, and as I guessed, they want to charge me for more tuning to fix the idle problem. Big surprise. wock the fock.

Thx for the help so far.

Sounds like your IAT sensor is bad (or the wiring is bad). That will definitely effect the running of the car so fix it ASAP.

where is this sensor located? Is there a simple way to figure out whether the wiring is bad or if the sensor itself is bad? Is this little gremlin expensive to replace?

The factory service manual has the parameters and test procedure if you want to look it up.

Its located under the UIM. FSM has a good diagram of that also.

Yeah, it is on the under side of the upper intake manifold (just above the rat's nest). It is closer to the firewall side of the manfold and there is a harness back there with a connector that plugs into it. You might be able to use a small mirror and a flashlight to take a peak down there to see if the harness and connector look OK. Given your symptoms, there has to be a problem of some kind, but it could just be corrosion on the connector contacts. You could dress the contacts on the sensor connector and the corresponding harness connector.

It takes a little effort to remove the UIM, but you will need to do so to get at the sensor. If you do remove the UIM, make sure you do NOT tug too hard on the wires and hoses. There are a number of them connected to the UIM and they need to be disconnected gently before you pull it out. If you have old (crispy) hoses, you may end up needing to replace some while you are at it.
