clogged fuel filter could cause problems with your engine being destroyed. If you dont' know when your filter was last changed, it's a small price to pay to replace it just for the piece of mind it offers. Think about it this way...if you have a clogged filter, less fuel can get into the engine. This causes a lean condition, and when combined with air and spark, can lead to detonation. This has a detrimental effect on your apex seals, as well as your wallet since you'll soon be shelling out several thousand dollars for a new engine and installation.

So run, dont walk and get that **** replaced.

The fuel filter is actually the only thing I would let the dealership touch mainly because it's such a pain in the $ss. At $55 it's well worth letting someone else do it.

You asked about the fuel injectors, but I do not know what mods or how many miles your car has on it. You probably do not need new ones or an expensive take apart to clean. I put in some fuel injector cleaner every 3 months and get great results with it. I have used Redline and Royal Purple. Some other people have recommended Seafoam. You can get Redline from Pep Boys and you can get Royal Purple and Seafoam from Napa. Since you are going to the dealer for a fuel filter, Mazda also has a fuel injector cleaner that I have been told works well, but I have never used it. You will get a lot of opinions about which fuel injector cleaner to use, but I have seen all three of these recomded.

I dunno what a dealer charges for a fuel filter but its probably a lot of $. Just head over to autozone or advanced auto and pick up a purolator replacement. I think thats the one i installed.

Not to rip on you or anything, but you replace the most important filter on the car with a cheap Purolator POS? The OEM filter is about $45. You replace it every 15k or so. Is an extra $28 really worth the risk?

I've read that Mazda fuel filter ain't all that. Someone on the forum opened it up and couldn't justify the cost over a Purolator. Also, I've never heard of Purolator as making POS replacement part. I've always used their PureOne oil filter and it's just as good or better then the Mazda OEM one. If you have some hard facts about the Mazda fuel filter being better then anything else out there, let me know. I'll be the first to convert. It's almost time for me to replace it too.

Yeah, Lone wolf, I probably opened my mouth before my brain kicked in. I don't have any personal knowledge of the filters (such as opening them up to compare). Most of my hastily written opinion was based on the oil filter comparison I read (damnit, can't remember where) that compared several aftermarket filters. The PureOne came out OK, but the cheaper Purolator filters sucked. I guess I was mostly transferring that situation to this one. If you have personally compared the Purolator and OEM filters and found the Purolator better, then more power to you. Until I am convinced otherwise, I will stick with the OEM filter.

I was thinking it was N3A1-13-480. Mazdatrix has it labeled as a 13-4800-N3A1, so who knows.

I want your lights. They turned out sooooooo good! I'm glad you're still enjoying them though.

You can locate the part number for an OTC fuel filter at autozone.com or factory at mazdaformance.com - $15-$35, usually

If you only knew who makes the OEM filter.

Who does make the OEM filter?? I just wouldn't feel too good about installing a fuel filter that Wal-mart and the local Discount auto parts store supplies into my FD.
