where to begin? jim i meant disrespect mentioning your ability build the rx into the car that you want (i'm doing it with my 1.8t rabbit). it is great to see the real discussion of the many options we have with a common problem. no one solution should be considered the only alernative...everyone should have the right answer for their car. my idea just seems to have the right combination of ease, affordability and real help for me. i still haven't done enough testing to verify my results and i don't think this is going to allow you to run your autocross at 1/8 tank but i do think it is a huge step in the right direction. i'm working on pics but, as i said originally, i just got really excited because i've been putting up with this problem with my car or so long it really affected how i feel about the car.

Bingo.

I don't think people realize how loud external high-flowing pumps are. For comparison, my two A1000's are just as loud as my cars idle.

My imagination says a sump welded into the bottom of the stock tank is very dangerous at best.

The bottom of the tank is low and could be damaged in any off-road event. If the sump hit something I could imagine it would rip right off and leave up to 16 gal of has spilling out in a wreck.

In a rear end collision any tank flexing could break welds on a sump...

The rear section of the tank does not sit any lower than my differential, or some of the suspension components.

Anything is possible, a rear end collision, or something. But, thats how it goes for performance.

Man that thing is a safety nightmare, but I bet it works well.

I see power wires, fittings, sump, etc all hanging out waiting to get ripped off in any type of incident. I bought a totalled FD a while back that had a small scrape on the tank from going over a curb. That sump would have been ripped right off along with the piping and pumps. With the power wire dangingly around you'd have a good opportunity for a spark..

That picture was build-only. The power is ran up and over the tank now, and is not zip-tied to the SS fuel line. Let me post a few other build pictures to give you an idea of where it actually sits. It isn't as low as you think, for there are all kinds of other stuff that would get ripped off 1st:

I dont think so.. People talked about the alternative to what you were looking to do with regards to some negative things, and I was showing them how I did it to offer a wider variety of thinking. I think you have a good idea, and more often than not, it would be the way most people go.
