Fuel smell? Leak?
Fuel smell? Leak?
I noticed a gas smell when my car was parked and I was checking the car to see if there was anything leaking. I didn't find anything but when I went to my mechanic, he was saying that there is possibly a fuel leak because he smelt it too. Quoted me on the following
Pulsation Dampner
Insulator, injector
Gasket, Plenum
Hose Clamps
Silicon Hose
R&R
Basically, it might be the injectors he said, but I was just getting a second opinion on here of anyone ever have a problem like this.

Well, yes, any place in the fuel delivery system could cause a fuel smell.
However, where was the smell coming from? Engine bay? Under the car? Rear of the car?
There are several reason which can cause a gas odor, but location is the first key thing. The next one is doesn't it only smell like that after sitting, while its idling, do you have the smell while driving?

Gas smell is coming from the engine bay. I checked under the car to see if there was anything leaking and I didn't find anything. The smell comes when I start the car and pull in to park it after it has been running. No smell if it has been sitting over night or just been sitting there for a while. I don't think the smell would come under the car unless it is under the car and rises up through the engine bay.
See if you can localize the smell by letting the car idle and sniff close to the fuel rails and then on the other side under the elbow. If you are getting a strong smell under the manifold, use a flashlight to see if you can notice any fuel pooling under the fuel rails where the LIM joins the block.
If you do have fuel leaking there, it will stain the block (or ruin the paint if you have painted housing) in that area so its pretty easy to see.

Or, you can run the fuel system, with exception of the injectors, by jumping the fuel pump pin (i forget the exact label) and the GND pin in the diagnosis box. This will tell you if it's a line, pulsation dampener, FPR, etc.
If you don't see or smell anything after that, it could be a leaking injector among other things.
Lately, I'll get an occasional whiff of fuel and I haven't been able to track it down. I guess I'll just have to add that to my current list of projects.

Yea, he was suggesting it's either the dampeners or the injectors, which have to be completely replaced if it's the injectors. If it is the injectors I guess it's an excuse to upgrade fuel pump/injectors
I will check it out tomorrow and get back to you guys.
