fuel pulsation damper: different kinds?

I know the fpd can cause a lot of problems; namely making your car into a campfire. For everyone that has replaced a failed one I hear about how the plastic parts break down and then begin to leak. When I swapped motors recently I looked very closely at my fpd and mine is all metal with a metal fitting; no plastic on it at all.

Are the "new" replacement dampers of a new design and mine replaced already?

If I remember correctly, the main part of it that leaks is the rubber in the top of it. After a while that rubber will become hard and crack, spitting fuel out the top. That's all I know.

Yup, that's how the FD ones leak. The rubber diaphram leaks from the top. I've seen about 3 of them leak that way.
