Fuel Leak Please Help!
I took off my intake manifold because I smelled fuel near the fuel rail. So i checked for the leak and it is not on the primary fuel rail or the secondary injectors. All the injectors are in good shape. Where it looks like it is coming from is in between the lower intake manifold and the rotor housing. This is the weirdest thing. Anyone have any input? Thanks.
Well, the location you describe is not an area where fuel is delivered to the engine. I can only surmise that it is simply the location where the leaking fuel is accumulating. What I would do is pressurize the fuel system to see where the system is leaking. This is very simple and can be done with the UIM removed.
[Aside:I feel like a broken record in saying this because I have explained it sooo many times. But lets take a deep breath and continue]
You go to the diagnosis box to the driver's side fender. You jumper the fuel pump prong to ground with a simple paper clip. The prongs are identified in the cover of the diagnosis box [See FSM for specifics if you do not understand] You then switch the ignition to the "on" position ( DO NOT start the engine!). You should then hear a hum from the rear of the car indicating that the fuel pump is operating. You can then get under the hood and search for the wet spot caused by the fuel leak. You have two sets of injectors, three main fuel lines, the FPR and the FPD to inspect. Common problem areas are the FPR and FPD. The injectors are also prone to leak up through the plastic covers and even through the electrical connector. Cracks in the fuel lines can also occur. No smoking and no driving until found. ^^ You may also be getting leakage around the gromet seals at the point where the secondary fuel rail seats into the LIM. I would still pressurize the system to eliminate the other possibilities mentioned above first, however.
