Fuel gauge stuck in middle (brand new sendign unit)??

I've found threads about his, but this is different. Please read.

-New sending unit/floater in gas tank
-LED low fuel light still works
-But gauge still always read half full??

Gauge use to always read 1/4, I was told it was the sending unit/floated inside the gas tank in the trunk/gas tank. So i got a brand new one from Mazda, replaced it and now it always reads half??? What the hell.

Funny thing is the low fuel LED light on the gauge still works fine and turns ON when the fuel is low but the gauge itself is still at half?

ANY SUGGESTIONS GUYS?

Only thing I can think of is that the gauge is stuck since it sat 1/4 full for years before I finally put a new sending unit in?? I was gonna take the cluster apart and try moving it by hand but I rather not do all that cuz I feel like its gonna be a ton of work.

Thanks in advance guys :-)

I would remove the float assembly and make sure it isn't stuck. Its really easy to install it improperly.

If the floater was stuck then how does the LED low fuel light know fuel is low? Shouldn't the floater be telling the light when to turn ON too?

No, low fuel light is a completely different system. Just uses a thermistor on bottom of sending unit that triggers the light when it no longer senses fuel.

Removing the gauge cluster isn't a ton of work. I wrote a pretty good how-to with pictures in my "How to Linearize the Third Gen RX7 Temp Gauge" article. You can get it here. You can check the gauge function using a potentiometer, ohm meter, and these resistances:

Dude ive done this 4-5 times now. It is a pain in the butt. I did 3 or 4 different things to correct my issue and it turned out to be the float mech. I changed out my gauge... no bueno... new float assembly..... no bueno. The first time it was with the wiring in the rear. Wasnt grounded right. Then it happened again and it was the float assembly getting stuck because my stock baffle thing broke off and is roaming aimlesly in my tank.

All i can say is it is simple to trace down. Check voltage on wiring from front to back, check gauge, check float assembly... u should be ok. On another note i think it must be stuck cause when mine wasnt getting a power signal it bottomed out.

Thanks guys, looks like I'm gonna start by remove the sending unit AGAIN and checking if its stuck. Im gonna plug the unit in while its out of the gas tank and move the floated up/down by hand and see if the fuel gauge needle moves up/down. If it doesn't move its got to be something with the gauge or wiring. Atleast now I know the LED low fuel light doesn't run off the floater.
