Question Fuel Gauge Problem? Help

Well this is my second thread here, as some of you may know my cousin and I picked up his new 93 rx7 last night, we have a problem. Now I know the gas prices are so damn high lately but for some strange reason, we went to fill the car up for a full tank and it stopped at about $23. So then we turned the car on and drove for like 3 min and then realized that even though we put a full tank in, the gauge on read a little over half tank??? Strange… any ideas what could be causing this? Thanks

Try this and see if it helps:

it's probably your fuel level sending unit. Under the carpet in the trunk, you can pull out the fuel pump and level sending unit assembly. You might first try cleaning the reostat area of the level sensor with some fine emery cloth. It worked well for me.

If you do pull out the pump/sending unit and clean it, the rheostat area needs to be removed therefore you will need to recalibrate your fuel gauge. It's easy to do, but kind of time consuming. Post back here if you need help with it.

Oh yeah, way to be on the ball Mahjik
