Fuel Filter Efficiency
Fuel Filter Efficiency
I'm running an Aeromotive filter with 10 micron media, mounted on the rear cross-member (directly behind the differential). Last night I was cruising and noticed the car leaned out big time under boost (yikes!). At first I thought the wideband O2 sensor was bad, but it seemed to be reading fine the rest of the time and wasn't throwing any codes (it's an Innovative wb). Anyway, I swapped the filter today and it's fine...the filter only had 10k miles on it. Lesson learned: change your filter often! Does anyone think 10 micron is overkill? Should help keep the injectors clean longer.

Maybe the lesson here is that if you use a filter with too fine of a "screen" it's going to clog rather easily. Maybe it's better to let a few microscopic impurities get through than court disaster with a lean out condition that blows your entire engine.
It's an optimization issue, of course. I don't really mind changing the filter element every 5k miles or so because it's super easy to get to the way I have it mounted (the stock location is pure hell), but I'm surprised it loaded up that fast

btw, if you're thinking of buying one of these to replace the crappy stocker, definitely consider their new filter with a shut-off valve; prevents spilling gas all over the floor
