I found fuel in the engine oil of my 3rd generation RX7. What do I have wrong? Is it a lot of damage????

 

I think that a little fuel in the oil is common... I know mine does it...

 

I think I have a lot because when I check with the dip stick I am noticing that it looks more like fuel than oil.

 

I think I may have the same problem. I hardley ever if never have to add oil to my car. But I drive like 2,000 in like 5 months

 

But before I never had fuel in the oil so I'm concerned. Does anyone have any idea if fuel stays on top of engine oil or under???

This is common on a rotary. The rotary injects oil (via the MOP), so the oil level should go down, maybe up to a quart between oil changes. This is one of the key reasons to change the oil very often, more so than a piston engine. It is also why so many engines blow - someone didn't check it.

However - some people do not see much drop in oil level between changes due to fuel getting into the oil. This obviously dilutes the oil and will contribute to early engine death. So change early, change often.

By itself, fuel getting in there is not a concern, as it happens to everyone. Now if you let it go 5K miles between changes, watch out.

This is one argument against using synthetics in a rotary. Yes, even if the ash build-up of some synthetics is not a problem with your brand, you still want to change the oil every 2 - 3K. That will get rid of the fuel build-up.
