Front Wheel Bearing

I know the front wheel bearing are not meant to be serviceable BUT what happens if the inner sleeve collar just separates from the assembly?

I was installing brake backing plates for VIR next weekend:

And I went to put on the hub assembly (they're about 2 years old, maybe 2 track events). I pulled it back off to check something, the inner collar stuck, and separated from the unit.

The bearing feels fine but does this mean I just get another one or can I just reassemble it? I've never heard of this one before...

Forget it. After looking at it I'm never going to get it back inside the seal.

@!#$% of course this happens when I have to wait until Monday to order another one!

Actually I did press it back in but it doesn't spin very well...

Edit: In case someone reads that a certain way, I do NOT plan to use it.

FYI if you're ever in a pinch, Advance Auto Parts has them (well they can get them for 9am next day including Sundays) Item # 3279219 for $118.88. Yes, they are the full assembly with studs and ABS sensor ring.

WAIT! I've was in a similar scenario and found something odd while shopping online. Looking at both advanced autos and Autozones web pages for front wheel bearings. I came across this: advanced $118.88 Autozone $59.95 so i went into autozone with the part number and nope the only bearing they had was $1XX. So i took the chance and ordered online. A few days later for $60....front wheel bearing unit as pictured above complete works great! I'll PM you on this maybe you'll wanna save the $60! and anyone else interested. I tried to link the page and write down the part number but it doesn't work on there search page...

tt2323,

Thanks for the info and the PM for the heads up. Unfortunately, Autozone, my first call, could only get it to me on the 15th. I still need to get the car aligned before VIR, I leave Fri, and I wanted it ASAP to leave room for more unforeseen difficulties. I can pick it up this morning (Sun) when they open, that was as good as I could hope for getting a bearing on a weekend.

Great info though, I know someone will use it and, again, thanks for the info.

Cheers,
Grant
