Front shock mount stuck. Ideas?

Ok so, I am having trouble removing my passenger front shock. Everything is off the car, control arms and all. So this is the last piece of the puzzle.

This nut must be loctited on. It just spins, spinning the rod from the shock with it. I have already tried PB blaster and that didn't help. My only other thought is heat, but I don't want to melt the rubber peice. the drivers side came off just fine.

Any thoughts guys?

Are you replacing them with something aftermarket? If so, take a pair of Vice grips and grab the shock shaft ( Insert joke here) Then crack at the top nut with some sort of impact tool ( Battery or air powered impact gun will work.) Hopefully that should take that nut off.

I have coilovers sitting next to the car, but I have the springs and shocks for sale. I would prefer not to damage them. If I have to break the top mounts I will.

If you don't have air, try putting a wrench on it and giving it a quick smack with a dead-blow hammer or wooden mallet.

I will give that a try when I get back from Philly tomorrow. If that fails, it's off to find an air tool.

Mr. Impact Wrench is definitely your friend in situations like this.

+1 ^ One quick hit and this thing will more than likely be loose.

If the shocks shaft is already turning, I doubt an impact gun alone will take it off. he'll have to hold that part in place with something. But, once he does that i'm sure it'll come loose. Bwahahah

He probably doesn't live near him.

I had the same thing happen on my Teins. Just hacked it off and replaced it. I spun the mount around so it was accessible from the outside location.

Yeah...impact wrench is the only way. Or put the wrench on and hit it with a hammer real hard

Wrap something like a bicycle tire tube around the shock shaft for grip, then put the vise grips on that and loosen the top nut with a wrench / breaker bar

Never heard that bike tire idea, thats pretty smart. I have aleays used my impact in the past when I had stock struts.

You could also go to a local hardware store and buy a small length of pipe gasket material. It is about 1/8th in thick, semi hard rubber. It is usually sold by the ft. It is very grippy, but very "bendable". Put that inside the teeth of some vice grips and clamp them on the strut shaft. I would imagine that would work very well.

I knew someone would. I actually changed my OP because I was laughing at the original wording.

Impact gun is the best way to do it, but I'm glad you got it sorted.

Also, that rubber mount on top is installed upside-down FYI.

That was the previous owners doing, but thanks for pointing it out, it's something I wouldnt have noticed.
