forgot to grease input shaft splines

I just put my engine back in over the weekend. This morning I realized I forgot to grease the splines on the trans input shaft for the clutch disc.

The clutch is new and the shaft had been cleaned up. I'll drop the tranny if I have to but I am hoping to avoid it.

Advice and opinions are appreciated.

thanks,
gary

If the transmission went in smooth I don't see an issue. Personally I would leave it.

The question is did you grease the pilot bearing?

Pilot bearing - yes.

Throwout bearing sleeve - no

I didn't realize I forgot that too until a little more research. I'm going to see if I can get grease to the throwout bearing sleeve on the tranny. If not I'll pull and do them both at the same time.

Thanks for the input.

as long as you grease the fork and both bearings you will be fine i never grease the splines...

the nissan 350z has a recall for the slave cylinder and its inside the bell housing so the tranny needs to come off......ive done about 9 of these recalls already and i never gresed the splines only the pilot, throwout bearing and the end of the fork where it meets the throwout bearing... never had a problem.... also did a clutch twice on fds and 3 rebuilds witch the tranny needs to come out and put back on .... also never had a problem..

my opinion
if this was my car id pull the tranny and grease the thowout bearing and fork....
