FMIC with stock bumper? possibilities for better airflow/ cooling?

I have a Greddy fmic with my stock bumper.... the stock bumper and 99spec lip is really growing to me but my only issue is the stock bumper opening is sooo tiny... theres 15 rows of fins but only five are actually getting air flow due to the tiny opening...

so my question is are there any options/solutions to creating better airflow? i know ive seen one member (black fd) cut two nostril holes on the front kinda like where the openings for the feed bumper are...

also i know a lot of s2k guys do it on their stock hoods and rear bumpers..
http://www.s2ki.com/forums/index.php...ic=324009&st=0
(this is just the hood) but i was thinking of something like that on the front bumper to allow more airflow to the FMIC?

any ideas or suggestions? besides getting a new front bumper?

You can do something like the Shark Mod:

Personally I think the shark tooth mod looks terrible...

You could cut away the rear side of the opening, enabling you to mount the IC almost flush with the front like ihavetwins.

It's not done for looks... If you look at most of the "functional" front ends, they aren't very pretty (i.e. Mazdaspeed GT-C).

i think a flush intercooler looks much better than the shark tooth mod.

you actually want a smaller opening for your intercooler, but yours is pushed up against the bumper if it was actually sitting in a little further it would be better.

Yeah, I understand this. I was just saying that from a purely aesthetic view I dislike it

Mount it as far back as possible and duct it, or keep a SMIC. I think maximum boost says that the duct opening should be not less than 1/4 of the core size.

Open up a space between the lower bumper opening and the R1 lip. Air will go under the Greddy IC. Ccarlisi and I both did that. There are some old posts about it if you want to search for it. Definitely helped and looked better than the bucked tooth look of that photoshop you did.

Do you have any thing around the radiator to make the air want to go through it?? Alittle foam around the sides or some sort of a airdam on the top and bottom of the radiator will catch the air coming in the front (and through the ic)and force it into the radiator. Any gaps around the edges of your radiator core are places for the air to escape(not going into the radiator), gota trap every bit of air that you can cause your ic is in the way and pushing most of the air up and over your hood.
( notice they tape up the front ends in nascar when they run qualifying laps so air is NOT trapped and fed to the radiator and brakes. better areo but the engines are on the verge of overheating when they are done. This is kinda what you have done with your front mount.)

the ic being pushed so far forward in the inlet duct doesn't allow near as much air in as stock, so u are fighting an up hill battle.

MY2 cents. modify the fmic into a vmic and your problems will go away. plus u can keep your good looks. In my opinion the best cooling setup for a rx7. GOOD LUCK

My old car. I later cut out the material hanging down under where the plate would go.

I did what Rotary Experiment pictured above.

I also sealed off the bottom of the radiator with some sheet metal and foam. Sealed off the top with sheet metal also. Never got around to sealing off the sides. I think I posted pics once...

Found the pics

I used some thick foam striping meant for air conditioning to seal the bottom and sides of the radiator. Also had a customer metal plate covering the opening between the radiator and bumper in the engine bay.
