flutering noise
flutering noise
today when i was checking for leaks on my engine i reved the engine and when the rpm's go back down it makes a fluttering noise. im not sure if that ok or not. thanks
Probably the decel afterburn control. Basically, when you let off the throttle, the high vacuum (and therefore less air) creates a very rich condition, an emisions no-no. So the ECU does fun things like shut off the fuel flow, advance the timing (oohh.. is it retard?), and open a vacuum line to a "dashpot" that keeps the throttle from closing too quickly. All this in conjunction makes a burbling/popping/stutter sound from the engine. This what you have? This is typical, and not cause for alarm. Backfiring from a STOCK engine is indicative of a problem, but many mods to improve flow typically yeild backfiring and even fireworks

I think it's probably a check valve off the brake booster. The check valve is in the line from the booster to the metal pile that runs along the firewall. The flutter from the check valve is normal, but it resonates through the matal tube to the firewall.
There is a TSB# 011/97,
and a part #F285-13-363 and #9994-00-600 (this last part is just a 10mm flange nut),
that they sell that isolates the driver's side mounting point for that metal tube. It costs like $12. It can be fixed with a 10 and 15mm wrench in 5 mins. or so.
It worked for me.
I have a scan of the TSB sheet That I'll resample and post later.
