upgrading the fuel system and getting a tune is the only u are gonna make power with or wiothout a mp. a good tune is the best money u will spend on your fd.

my wastegate is not ported i control boost perfectly fine for 5 yrs. tks. the same goes for a ton of people here. u came posted comments w.o reading the thread. thats a big no no. noone is recommending that u dont monitor your boost when u first install a mp. whats being said is very simple...not all midpip;ed rx7s have boost creep. its something that u need to test out for yourself.
I was responding to the one part of your post that said you might not get creep. This may be true (althought I don't see why considering all FDs have the same sized WG) but I just think it's careless to say that you may not get creep. It may be true but it's like a statement that should come with some kind of disclaimer. There is always an outlier (in this case your FD) that the rules may not apply to.

Sorry if I seemed like I came out a little strong. I'm a pretty sarcastic guy so arguing over the internet never really works out for me, I always seem like I'm trying to stir up **** and I'm not.

It seems to me that since flow is the reason why a midpipe causes creep, that the other flow mods on the car (intercooler, muffler, downpipe, y-pipe, intake) will determine whether boost creeps. As well, altitude and temperature have an effect.

I do agree that the statement "put one on and see" is dangerous, if it's not expressed or understood that one must monitor boost over a range of air temps (esp. during winter). Matty mentioned that it's ok if you don't have 'issues', but it does help in this forum to mention exactly what those issues might be. Because the attention span of many readers here is poor at best, I usually throw them a bone and say it every time.

And it does get old, having to repeat it to every 17yo who just got their eBay full exhaust.

How significant of a role could an intercooler play? ALso does the Efini Y pipe give that much more flow?

Somewhere on www.fd3s.net there are numbers on pressure drop across the intercooler. There are definitely less restrictive intercoolers than stock.

The bolted y-pipe is shaped a little differently, to improve flow. How much exactly is hard to say, but it seems to be much less than an intake, downpipe, or muffler.

Boost creep can blow an engine in a heartbeat. Having 'enough fuel' doesnt do **** if you aren't tuned for it, and if you just installed the midpipe, you arent tuned for it. What happens if you go WOT and don't back out quickly enough? Exactly .
bravo....Rich is 100% on the money here

boost creep (with the stock WG) killed two of my engines and likely cost me $10k

if you run a midpipe, you MUST have a ported WG, because you WILL get some creep....it might be on a really cold night or sometime you aren't paying attention....all it takes is one time....matty, don't be a butthead arguing some ancillary point about bang for the buck, show respect for the vets on here

If you remove all the exhausts restriction and still run a stock WG youll get creep, just because you havnt lost an engine (yet) doesnt mean creep doesn't happen, or your car is blessed. Im not sure why this is being argued, do a search for "boost creep" and read the other 10000 threads on it.

i been around just as long as most my friend! and u are very wrong about that u MUST have a ported wg. hundreds of people dont including myself. its been several yrs. my car was very low mileage when i installed it too so evereything was and still is functioning perfectly.

Some people need to port the wastegate and some dont. why is that? i have no clue and believe me this topic has been kicked around alot....noone knows why. Its very simple, install the mp see if u get creep. if u do then port your wg.if u dont then dont port it. i just cant stand when people tell junior memebers not to get a mp b/c it brings on a ton of problems when my experiences are quite the contrary. i track, strip, dyno the **** out of my car as well as drive my car on cool north east nights...i get ZERO creep!!!! SEARCH ON THIS SUBJECT AND U WILL FIND MANY MORE LIKE ME!!! i did the search earlier today thats why i posted mahjik qoute as it sums up my point perfectly. i used it b.c he is one of the moderators here....why dont u show some respect! how do u like the sound of that! see how a wise crack can bite u back in your ***!

btw, for those of you thinking about the intercooler, i run one of the lowest pressure drop ic;s around...the m2 medium ic.

Second, you can remove boost creep (if you have it) with other methods besides porting your wastegate (i.e. exhaust restrictors).

I slapped a midpipe on after passing emissions back in 2004...I passed emissions and blew an engine in the same day. Ported motor, ported WG let go at 13.5psi, 6.5krpm, 11.9A:F...315rwhp; $5k motor junked. 1995 RX-7.

Make your own decision.

matyy, the only think I can think of then is you have a relatively restrictive cat-back or tired turbos....I always got creep with a mp, so has everyone else I know

and a ported WG preferably the David Garfinkle oversize variety

or just go single with a monster external WG, that is the ultimate solution

Basically, it should be said to each his own.

A local club member of mine just installed his MP and he has no creep. Good for him.

I don't wanna chance creep for the increase in power it will give so I am going the High-Flow route.

To each his own,

Alex

I love my midpipe. Wouldn't trade it for the world. I have a ported w/g, too .

YZF, to follow up on creep with these BNRs: now that the weather has warmed up, I am able to keep the boost down to around 12.5 psi or so (down from 14-15 psi in the colder weather). Of course, the car is much more fun at 17 psi

Hundreds..? Can you make a list? I had a mp on when I had stock twins and never noticed it creeping but all it took was one cold night and a half assed WOT and pop, apex seal said bye bye. So saying everyone go get a mp and get bigger injectors and a tune will keep your engine safe is not the smartest thing. Sure a few cars may not have as much creep as others, or maybe at all, but that obviously does not mean everyone is in the same boat. Heres some threads for any confused people to read:

car had 16k miles when i installed the mp so i doubt turboes were tired. i also have had a few different exhaust setups over the yrs. i had the n1 dual...thats definately not a restrictive exhaust. i currently run the rb dual which may be restrictive. i also used to have a straight midpipe but currently have a resonated one. never had creep. been boosting 15psi for 5 yrs now...make 360 rwhp on stock ports and trap 118mph. both are good numbers! people say u cant run 15psi for a logn time. i never turn my boost down, ever. 15 psi all the time for 4-5yrs. car has simple boltons and is fast....its done right.

i am gettign tired of this....do u chose what u want to read? i have said atleast 5 time on this thread....i am not making a blanket statement at all. i am saying what u just said...so what the hell are you argueing? some poeple get it and some dont. best advice is to see if u do or not. be safe about it too. why spend money on a costly job (that is if u cant pull the turboes yourself) if u dont need it. i didnt...neither did alot of people.

I'd be very curious to find out if running at 10psi gives creep.

12psi doesnt get it but i dont run 12psi often, no clue on 10 psi. i have no clue why soemone would run 10 or 12 psi when u can run 15psi with zero problems.

higher the psi...more exhaust flowing thru the turbines, not the WG. if the wastegate doesn't have to vent as much exhaust, it can limit boost...all this means is less chance of creep with the higher psi if you have fuel and support for it.

10psi alot more exhaust will NEED to flow thru the WG, and I have no doubt in my mind it will creep...I've been there. There is a balance where the WG can keep up and boost will stablize.

Anywho, full exhaust cars belong on the track...they stink, are loud, and hurt my eyes. (I live in a place that doesn't test emissions, and I run a cat, air pump, resonator, restrictive quiet catback, and a single turbo...I don't come across two many cars that can keep up)

just talking to a guy that tunes a ton of cars and is a very respected memeber here ...he has seen no creep on alot of cars including his own. his exact quote was "every car is different".

thats all i am saying people. but go ahead and miss out on the benfits of the mp...i will laugh as i walk you.
