Fixed my Dashpot

Fixed my Dashpot...

My dashpot hasn’t worked for awhile now, so I pulled it and noticed oil was leaking from the ball bearing that seals the unit. So I carefully dugout the bearing and the rubber stopper under it. I submerged the unit in mineral spirits with the hole facing up and worked the plunger in and out until all the air was out. I then tapped the hole (where the ball bearing was ) with a 6-32 tap and installed a screw with a dab of epoxy. It’s been holding for two days now! Time will tell.

The only thing I would have done different is use a little thicker oil. It operates a little fast but it’s close, and it fixed the decel shutter and popping.

Disclaimer:

This worked for me, your mileage may very.

Very interesting! It's worth trying to fix since it's like $85 for a brand-new one. Never considered it a repairable unit!

I'll have to see if I've got a bad one to monkey with.
