fitment issues: fluidyne/koyo with greddy SMIC

A couple of us are thinking of going with a Greddy SMIC and a Fluidyne or Koyo radiator. Our concern is that the thicker radiator will lift the SMIC too high. If anyone has experience with this, please help us out.

Thanks, Adam

I have the Blitz stock mount with a fluidyne rad and there is no problem for fitment.

Yup,

The Fluidyne will lift the Greddy SMIC up.
I had to switch to a Petit IC duct after installing the Fluidyne.

Suposedy, if you remove the spacers on the upper mounting points for the radiator you can get it to sit lower.
(I did not do this because it seemed like it would result in interference with the AC condenser.)

Why not go with the Mazda Comp radiator if you want a better fit?
They recently reduced the pricing to within $100 of the Fluidyne.

How does the Mazdacomp rad compare to the Fluidyne with regards to capacity and frontal area? (total area w/cooling fins)

I had that same question with the radiator from Mazda Comp and the Fluidyne. Jason compared them both and told me that in his opinion the Fluidyne appeared to have better welds, overall finish and went as far as the packing too. Add the price $$$ factor and Fluidyne is the winner.
I have the SMIC M2 large and have no problems in the fitting department. The install went smoothly and it dropped in like a dime.

My understanding is that the mazdacomp radiator is the same size and capacity as the stock radiator. The difference is that is is all aluminum, and costs more.

If I recall correctly the SCC mag RX7 project had a picture of the stock vs the Mazda Comp and they were not the same size. They actually had to trim some part of the flanges in order to make it fit. You might want to read online the cooling upgrades issue. I still think that the Fluidyne will fit your needs just right and not interfear with the GReddy SMIC.

Fluidyne rad with GReddy SMIC

The Fluidyne will lift the Greddy SMIC up.
??? I have the GReddy SMIC and Fluidyne rad. The interference is with the radiator fan motor plastic bracket contacting the hose connection on the radiator. The aluminum hose connection is longer than stock and extends far enough to rub on the fan bracket It required notching and removing approx 1/2 inch from the plastic bracket. The IC is a tight fit, but bolts in without a lot of trouble and without any modification. The IC aluminum "duct" may require some filing and notching to get a good fit and some duct tape to seal up some of the gaps afterward.
