first rotary into the fives
first rotary into the fives
70 pounds of boost into a 3 rotor needed to get it done. i believe the car has to weigh 2000 pounds. 2 rotors are running 90-100 pounds of boost. the amount of work and $s to live in this neighborhood gets my attention. for instance, if tire shake is encountered on launch a new crank is required. gulp. in this rarified air maintenance is similar to a nitro burning 3 second dragster. all way over my head and not my area of interest other than to take relevant nuggets from the effort. one of those being the Silver I-Seals.
Silver I-Seals should be labeled I-Steals as they are made from the same proprietary material as the Gold I-seals yet friendly priced. they also receive the same hardening process.
i have spent hours w my digital mic comparing the Gold and Silver and while there is a difference, it is a distinction without a difference. they go in all my builds. i don't sell I-Seals and buy them from my friend Cam Worth at Pettit.
That's what's in mine too, and there were rumored to have been some failures that may have been related to a bad batch, but I could never find anything concrete on them and wondered if the gold/silver was some sort of adaptation.
there have been no changes in the seals, the original (now Gold) seals simply gained a new tag to distinguish them from the company's effort to offer a seal (Silver) that could be produced so as to price towards the general market. as to the "bad batch" speculation, that was purely speculation. there were other issues in play. should you wish more details re general seal degradation the I-Seals website has some excellant information.
i would add from personal experience over the years that new builds should absolutely stay off the dyno for a solid 1500 miles.
i understand that the Loquito did 7 runs on the seals prior to the 5.95 run. 70 pounds of boost on methanol? 2000 pounds, 235 mph in 1320 feet gets my attention. that's w the Silver Seals.

Gold price has almost doubled, but the original release was about 2017 or so when I bought a set.
Good to know, thank you. Also available through Motorsports.

Between all the Roger Mandeville work and the I-Rotary prices, the engine is almost becoming too "expensive" to bang on. Guess I'd better turn the boost down!
