First problem w/ FD.

I haven't started my car in over a week, so today I popped open the hood cranked up the fd letting it warm for a few minutes then shut it down. Here's my situation, when I was about to drop the hood I heard cracking sounds coming from the passenger side of the engine bay. The time that it took me to get out of the car to the hood was about 15 seconds. Can detonation occur after the car has died down? Does anyone know what it might be?

The car is 94 stock r1 w 25K on it..

It might be just your pipes cooling down.

just FYI, they only made R1 models in 1993. In 94-95 it was called the R2, so if thats what you have, then it's an R2.

and yea, sounds just like normal popping from the hot turbos/exhaust. not much to worry about, but it really isn't good to just start the car, let it idle and then turn it back off. just taking a 2 minute trip around the block (assuming it's properly warmed up first) is much healthier. gets all the fluids in motion, plus forces some air through the rad/ic rather than heatsoaking in your garage.

Yeah, those noises freaked me out when I first got my FD too, but I soon realized it was just the turbos cooling down.

My dad still thinks there's something wrong with my car everytime he hears it, but he's never had a turbo car either.

Plus, you don't flood the car.

I only drive my car about a mile to work everyday. She never has time to get warmed up and by the time I park the temp gauge is well below the midway point. Are there any major issues that may be slowly building up? I try to take the car out and stretch its legs on thursday nights when I have to visit the campus. Is this enough to blow out any buildup of sorts? I know for a fact that my oil never reaches operating temps during 90% of the work week.
