Hey guys,

I'm trying to find an exhaust leak, and I have a question for you. With the car off, if I seal up the end of my exhaust pipe somehow (not sure how yet), and then use my mityvac to pump some pressure into end of the exhaust pipe, the system should hold the pressure right?

I'm wondering if I could somehow pump some colored smoke (again, no idea how I'm going to do this) into the exhaust and then seal the end of the exhaust pipe, could I use that to find the leak?

Yes, in theory it should work. However, I've had the best luck simply unbolting the flange in question and looking for soot paths escaping to the outside. As long as you re-use the gasket in the same place and same orientation it will usually seal very well again.

Another 'idea' is to wrap the suspected flange in something like foil, then run the car for a few days, take off the foil and look for soot.

white paint works too... but what i've done is just have the car running and use something to cover the end outlet and it will build up pressure really quick and accelerate the leak. ths works great with two people. if you plug the outlet the car will stall out.
