find the coolant leak... pics attached...

I'm having some coolant leakage but I think mine has to do with a couple newbies putting too much coolant in the system during a recent oil change.

other things:
1) I had a reman put in 6,000 miles ago. (included new h2o pump and thermostat)
2) The temp gauge never goes above half way.
3) The add coolant light has never come on.
4) car starts right up
5) never see the white smoke @ startup
6) took the filler cap off and started it up cold.... coolant quickly started to overflow but before I put the cap on (40 seconds after taking it off and starting it up) I didn't see any bubbles.
7) coolant is right to the top in the AST.
8) coolant is right to the top in the filler.

symptoms:
1) noticed leaking coming from in front of passenger wheel.
2) noticed a lil' coolant near front of car under fuses near the fans.

I've bought a 13 psi filler cap and a 13 psi AST cap and will be replacing them in a lil bit.

this is where most of the coolant is coming from.. it's the tubing just above the radiator... I think either something is leaking on it or it is leaking from somewhere but I'm just not sure.

this one is of the radiator... it looks like it's leaking but I think it may be coolant from the tubing leaking on it.

hmmm... I got coolant in nearly the same place and it was the radiator. The top tank (plastic) had cracked and was leaking when the whole thing got hot.

and this is the mess it leaves.. there's loads of coolant on the undercover and it drips out of every hole in the undercover. This shot is looking in from the front of the car over to the driver's side wheel.

What is that tube doing to meee???
Do I need a new radiator or what????

Yeah I thought that too but the AST tank still has coolant up to the top of the neck. If it were leaking out the bottom wouldn't it be empty at some point. Each time I check it, it's full.

maybe it's where the plastic tank and the aluminum core meets? if it is, time for a new one

well when I installed the fluidyne it leaked from the top coolent hose, and that lead to it going all over the place....

I'll second that it clearly looks to be the plastic tanks on the radiator(known problem/weakness). Do a proper pressure test to verify. On the plus side, most of the radiator replacements out there(Mazdacomp, fluidyne, etc.) don't have plastic endtanks.

I should have the pressure test done shortly.

Where can I buy the fluidyne?

Very good possibility. I had the same thing happen and it turned out to be that the overflow tank had a small leak in it.

Your radiator is leaking. Mine looked exactly the same about a month ago when I replaced it. Start the car and let it get hot and look very carefully at the seam between the top tank and the fins; it is weeping coolant. Try jiggling your IC duct with the engine running and see if even more coolant comes out; my leak was right behind it.

If its not that check the water pump. I noticed you had one put in and i had the unfortunate experience of someone putting mine in (former owner/mech) and not putting sealant on one of the mount bolts or some bs. pull the bolt out, sealant, back in. no more leak. just a thought

http://www.absoluteradiator.com seems to be the best price at $412.95.

I just got one from there and they shiped it out the same day and got it a couple of days later! Now I'm just waiting for my other stuff before I put it in

just noticed that the Koyo is on sale at the RX7 store for $395

http://www.rx7store.net/engine1.htm

I don't know anyone with the koyo, and I personally have the Fluidyne, but they at least *appear* to be comperable (maybe the Koyo is even a little better?)

well those who guessed the radiator....

you've just won $1 million dollars....

The upper plastic seal on the radiator has turned out to be the culprit.

I'm attempting to contact Absolute Radiator... that price $417.00 is way lower than RX7.com's $549. The also have the Koyo at $640+.00 but since I've only heard the reviews on the fluidyne that the one I'm going with.

the car has 103,000 miles on it, so I guess I should be glad the plastic POS lasted this long.
