Thumbs up

Great post rob... man this thread is such a trip. I have a friend at work who has a zr1, after riding in that thing on the street and track and checking out his buddy's z06 I was hooked, they are badass (stupid fast, comfortable, attractive... of course these are all subjective). I really really would like to pick up a z06... but I just can't imagine getting rid of the rex. If I was going to pick up a z I would do everything I can to keep the fd. I love that car!!!!! It just fits me better and I like being different... you don't see them everyday!

Although, if you stay rotary and take care of it I think you're good to go. Sounds like water injection is the way to go these days. Best of luck to you, you have great taste in cars as far as I'm concerned

Idk, im trying deep and hard to find out how you can go back to an FD from a monster C6Z. Having it as an addition is one thing but going back to the FD, IMHO its a downgrade. You werent driving a stock Z, it was insanely modified. Its more modern, more comfy (yes i been in it), more reliable, more usable torque, and in some aspects, more exotic looking.

Not saying the Z is a better car. Thats opinionated. Neither car is better. They're 2 different animals. I cant see having to go from what you had, back to an FD. Unless you A: needed the money, B: cant handle the power, or C: Exactly what you said, dont wanna be like the rest and simply love the FD for its rarity.

That goes back to what i said in the other thread. (this is not towards you lane_change) that people hold onto the FD just for some satisfaction of owning a rare piece. Even if its down or broken and hardly driven, you keep the car because you want to have that sense of gratification when someone talks about cars, then you get to mention the all rare, timeless styling FD. And how great it is to own it.

I don't truly miss looking in my rear view mirror after a hard pull looking for smoke, wondering if the car will idle at the next stop light, etc...but I do miss owning a car that has that special quality that makes you appreciate the good times. The C6Z for instance is almost entirely composed of "good times" so you take it all for granted. Get in, drive away, go racing, come home, park it, repeat....which is fantastic. But it's just a car, just like my daily driver or any other car. The FD seemed more like a family member. You get into fights, arguments, don't talk to each other for a while, finally calm down, and get back to loving each other again. lol It just has that "it" factor that I've never found anywhere else.
Damn, this post makes me want another one too...I am driving a 500ft-lb sequential turbo beast right now though

Yeah i really got hooked on the V8 ride a couple of years ago, then this year i finally got to own my first v8 car, the GTO. No its not as exotic looking or as light as a vette but the LS2 engine is simply amazing. For a heavy car like the GTO, the car PULLS AND PULLS. I honestly dont have to rev past 4000 going to and from work. There is so much usable torque to 4 grand, there is no need to rev the crap out of it. I can be in 6th gear at 60mph and the car is at 1600rpm lol. I can make 25MPG on my way to work in the morning lol.

I thought about converting my FD to LS ever since getting the GTO but i cant see myself to do that, YET. We'll see if and when my FD goes down for the count, then i'll decide. I still love the rotary to death. I love the way it sounds, it revs, everything about it. Makes the FD sound and feel like a true race car.

I dont think i could ever sell it either, even if it means getting a chance of owning a C6Z now. I would rather figure out a way to keep both. Not having a garage is one main reason why i dont pursue that, another is too many priorities. (mortgage, going back to school soon etc). The price of those cars will only go down so i can wait i guess. Then i can have both cars. The GTO, well i love that car too but its a different love. Maybe because i havent owned it long enough yet to make me truely in love with it lol

I've debated the GTR as well, just hard to pull the trigger on a GTR when I know it will be slow and I know that I don't want to spend $20k to fix the transmission when/if it were to break.

I do not know how to leave a car stock, and the same would hold true for any car and the GTR is pretty expensive to repair, which scares me from wanting to own one. The FD is very cheap to repair, but the downfall of the FD is that Mazda has stopped producing a lot of parts for these cars and it will only get worse as time moves forward. The C6Z is a fun car and I love the looks...but I swear, I must see 5 of them each day. I rarely see an FD driving around and when I do, for sure my head whips around to see what's up.

I did go to a local rotary meet recently though and it was good motivation for me not to buy an RX7. 20+ cars show up and only 2 of them are worth owning. Pretty sad to see that the FD has truly fallen on such hard times. Cheaper prices have opened the doors to people who can't truly afford to own them and these cars are simply falling apart around them. The Supra is starting to finally head down that same path with their prices finally coming back down to reality. Sucks to see the cars of yesteryear become the whipping boys of the young and ignorant.

Which is why when I do buy an FD, AMP's CYM (if still available) will be near the top of my list. There is simply a distinct difference between FD owners out there now and you have to be able to sort through the debris to find an FD worth owning these days. Sad but true. So far the C6Z has not gotten to that as of yet, but the $40k entry fee for a used one has helped, but it will be here eventually.

I thought maybe I was dreaming when I saw this thread, then I saw the infamous avatar. You do indeed describe the appeal of the FD dead on.

I'm pulling for you!
