Well, I got hooked up on the paint and body work from a fellow member on my other car forum whose family has their own body shop. With that being said, I'd wager for a normal person going to a local shop the new parts, prep, and paint work would have you looking at $8000

I had them take off the fenders and edge them, which helped with aligning the front bumper and fenders. Not to mention I had them fill some dents, do the jams, and the hatch, paint underside of hood, install the spoiler (I had none before), install sideskirts and mudguards. Color code is B17, 350z Daytona Blue. Dupont Chromalusion paint and clear.

DuPont perhaps, but not ChromaLusion. DuPont's ChromaLusion line changes colors...

ChromaBase or ChromaPremier family. I'm shooting ChromaPremier - not really that much more, in the grand scheme of things. ChromaLusion on the other hand - Ouch. Did you ever drive around with that paint before repainting, Jim? Somethings tells me no.

Sort of. I didn't get around to painting the exterior of the car before I changed my mind and hated the color, so the only parts that were painted were the jambs, hatch, and under side of the hood. In other words, the parts that didn't show. I drove it that way for about a month.

yes, it is ChromaBase, my bad...for some reason I thought it was Chromalusion. Anyhow, the color does have a slight pearl in it. Ona bright day the car is metallic sparkle like in the pics, but at certain angles it almost has a purple color as well.

So does my Electron Blue Metallic ('02+ Corvette). The pearl used is (or was) fairly expensive, making a gallon of EBM about $220, even with my friend's shop discount.

ChromaLusion is DuPont's "serious" color shifting paint (as you can see in the first picture I posted, which shows 5 different colors on the underside of my hood) and costs $253 per pint. I had 4 pints of Absolute Purpleen on my car just in the areas that don't show (including the entire engine bay after the engine was removed) because it doesn't cover for ****, especially when DuPont was recommending a gray base instead of black. A black base coat cut the required number of coats down from 7 to 5 (still a hell of a lot of color coats), and eliminated the possibility of seeing a nasty gray sidetone through the pigment if you didn't use the requred number of coats. I still have a pint and a half sitting down in the garage.

Great color, BTW. EBM is a bit darker I think, but the 350Z blue would probably have been my second choice. I didn't like the Innocent Blue Mica as much (too light), and Audi's Santorin Blue Pearl Effect (A4/S4) was quite a bit darker. I would not have painted the front spoiler, especially with the risk of scratching it, but your car looks great. Sorry for hijacking your thread.

^^read sig.

As for painting the front spoiler, I think most would agree it would look dumb if I would have left it black plastic. Yes it can scratch, but the car is far from a daily driver...so much that I even get paranoid when I do drive it to a store or something and go inside. Not so much that someone will hit it because I park out far, but moreso for the jealous ******** we have in this society of ours. Twice I have caught people circling the parking lot to drive over and stop by the car as I was walking into the store. I appreciate their interest, but still, you don't know the agenda of idiot kids nowadays

Yeah, what was Mazda thinking? Leaving the front spoilers black for all those years when they could have been pre-ricing them from the factory to save people the trouble of having them painted?

I know, I can't believe that painting a front spoiler to match a car is so ricey. It matters so much and says so much about peoples car, they must be seriously flawed and cheap to do that.

Yeah I know, that's why I had myreliability mods and performance upgrades done before I had it painted. Too bad BNR can't rebuild a turbo.

On painting the front spoiler. I don't think it is ricey and I really dislike ricey cars. The only problem is I think the front lip is a high wear item and sooner or later it'll get kinda chewed up.

Yup, I resurfaced mine and painted it flat black. It is sort pepper colored now. The blue paint will chip offthe lip over time.

Precisely, and painting it makes it look a little... "Firebirdish".

Nice color!

You might want to get an undertray for that thing. Driving on highways or at speed can lead to some overheating problems. You can rig a 93-95 tray to work with that bumper if you rig it, I did.

I like the look too (see My FD)

Why on the pettit website does the bumper look so incredibly gay and roundish and on your car it looks disgustingly badass? Did you do anything to it?
