Finally made it an FD

Hello fellow 3rd gen owners.

Just thought I would introduce myself and spread the good word of my recent purchase. I picked up a 94 Base from VizeFD last night. All I can say is,....life is good.

As you can see from my join date, I have been in the game for quite a few years. This is my 8th RX7, but my first FD. I have helped build a few turbo FB's and TII's. I am totally ecstatic to join the ranks. FD's have been my dream car for over 10 years, and the feeling of finally owning one is pure excitement.

I look forward to expanding my knowledge of 3rd gen's and building my dream car to the quality it deserves.

Thanks all,
-XLR8

'Base' with rear spoiler, it appears.

Welcome to the world of the FD! And by the way, Montego Blue Mica ROCKS!

Thanks all! Yes, Montego Blue is a very cool color. Initially not one of my favorite, but it continues to grow on me.

For the details......

94 Base
99k miles on body
30-40k on JDM engine

Suspension:
Tein Springs
KYB GR2 shocks
18" Konig wheels

Engine:
Greddy Intake pipes
Greddy Cat-back
3" DP

Electronics:
Pettit Unlimited ECU
Greddy Turbo Timer

Gauges:
Duel A pillar
Boost
Useless AFR gauge

Overall, very clean. The interior has been very well taken care of. No dash peal or center console wear....amazing. The seats are also in very good condition, despite some slight bolster wear on the driver side....not bad though. The original paint is great. The car was clearly garaged. However, some hater keyed the car on pretty much every panel during previous ownership. One of the previous owners "touched" it up with the brush end of paint. Looks a little rough up close but it still looks quite good from a few feet away.

The engine has surprised me. Boost is solid and compression is clearly in order. I am in the middle of moving in my new house and haven't had time for a compression test. However, after driving the car, compression is definitely on point. The car pulls very well.

Boost seems to spike slightly on a cool night. I did see 15psi once. I will be taking it easy until I have a chance to port the wastegate on the twins.

Plans:

EVERYTHING... lol

Full suspension, GT40R and all the fixins, and fixing every little thing that is wrong with it. Fresh paint will include a 99 Spec bumper, Chin spoiler, and FEED skirts....

Who knows,....may go 20B someday...

Take care all!!

Looks great. Welcome. With your experience it shouldn't be all that difficult for you to get up to speed on the FD.
Now get back out there and row through the gears again. Life will just get better.

Thanks.... I think from what I have seen, the hardest part about FD's is the factory setup. Not many people have the money to go single all at once, and fight with the limits and quirks of the twins, ECU, fuel system, and controlling boost.....Not to mention that FD parts are clearly more expensive.

I am a huge advocate of quality parts installed correctly. Definitely done enough project cars to know that a proper build plan goes a long way in quality and direction....

try an exhaust silencer for your boost creep. I have the same mods, and the only way i could stop creep is with a silencer. I had ported my waste gate to the max. with silencer my boost is rock solid maybe a half a psi of creep at most.

Thanks all!....

Yes, the wallet is going to be quite thin, for awhile......

FINALLY washed her for the first time today. Getting a fresh coat of wax tomorrow. I simply can't stop starring at it. I am truly in love with this car.

Thanks for the tips on creep. I have been watching it closely. It is rock solid through the day, but it does creep at night.

Some updates...

Car has been running well. I was having a boost issue, so I added dual MBC's to set things right. It is working well, but definitely ready to ditch the twins.

Recent Mods/Fixes:
Work Meister wheels - 9" front 10" rears....
IR Performance Motor Mounts
B&M short throw shifter
Rx8 5spd Shift ****
Pettit AST
Deleted PS
New Passenger door handle

In the Works:
Rebuilding Front & Rear calipers
Painting calipers black
Stoptech SS lines
Hawk HPS pads
929 MC upgrade
Replacing pillowballs
Super Pro FULL Poly bushing kit
PLX DM100 gauge system

I have been focusing on prepping the chassis for my single turbo project. I am going with a GT35R, V-mount, Water Injection, and all the fixins.. Should put down some good numbers and be a great street car.

Below are some new pics...

Enjoy all.... I know I am

It is the alarm LED. A previous owner installed a Clifford alarm. Clifford's are quality alarms, but it is a little dated. I will be installing a Viper 5002 with many accessories. Two-way paging alarms are the only way to go. I installed an extensive security setup in my Civic due to its high theft. The Rx7's security system will be better ....
