Finally got it running, Need Help Tuning!!!

I finally got my car running, 93 Touring, originally an auto converted to manual using donor rear-ended car. Car was originally tuned with a PFS PMC and aftermarket intake and intercooler. I do not have these installed on my car. Motor was tuned at KDR before the previous owner wrecked it.

The motor is a recent rebuild streetport from KDR. I have a Pettit downpipe, factory cat, unknown catback of good quality and like new, stock intake, stock computer, installed J&S Safeguard with display, silicone hose job, stock sequential turbos, Boost guage, A/F guage.

Here is my questions:

1. Idle was hunting from 1100-1400rpm. Read a post that said to tighten Air Adjust Screw, back out 1 full turn. Did this and the hunting almost stopped. It was set at 1 1/2 before this. Should I take it in further. It still hunts occassionally for a few seconds instead of constantly. Anything else I should do here?

2. Installed A/F Autometer gauge. After startup warm or cold, it reads all the way to rich. After about 3 minutes(after completely warmed up), the meter reacts. How should it react at idle, cruise at 65mph, between shifts, and full throttle. What is critical to look at, just full throttle? When cruising it is bouncing back and forth, under light throttle it is showing lean (no boost). Is this normal?

3. J&S set up pretty high (about 3/4 rotation on the little dial). Getting some pinging and timing retard at transition of turbos and under hard accelleration. During same time, A/F is all the way to rich. Can I or should I start cutting the sensitivity back? I have a new fuel filter and running 93 octane Mobil fuel.

4. Got the 3K hesitation. I am planning on putting new grounding wires. Any other thoughts? (stock 5speed ECU).

5. At very light accelleration. the car will reach 2500rpm and start to buck violently like fuel cut. Is this part of the 3K hesitation? Appears to have little or nothing during stronger accelleration. Before adjusting the #1 on my list, I also was getting surges if I held the throttle at about 5K in 1st or 2nd gear. It is still there, but not as strong. (like someone blipping the throttle). Is this still related to #1

6. Had a problem when I first started it where antifreeze dumped out at passenger corner below headlight. Figured out the pressure cap and fill cap were switched, dumping antifreeze out the overflow. Occasionally after shutting off the motor, the antifreeze still leaks out at the filler neck seam at the overflow tank. Do I need to do something with the filler neck or do I have too much antifreeze in the overflow. It is reading full on the dipstick.

7. The car has an ACT clutch. It is difficult feathering and starting out. It is engaging positively and quickly. Feels like it is grabbing when pulling out. Is this normal? Feels like the rear bushings might be shot also. Got some clunking going on. 80K on body.

Motor has about 4K since rebuild, 500 miles since installed.

My goal is to make the car a daily driver with smooth running motor. Not looking to make a 400hp monster.

Thanks for the help in advace.

Did you install the motor yourself? If not, why isn't the shop who installed the motor taking care of these issues? If you installed it yourself, you should be going through the FSM troubleshooting section for your problems.

The A/F gauge shouldn't really be relied on at all, IMO. It should pretty much read lean at light throttle, bounce back-and-forth at cruise, and should be dead rich at medium to high loads.

rynberg,

Thanks for the information. I do all the work myself. I am good with stock motors and 1st generations mainly, but this is a street ported motor. Just figuring it is a bit different than the information in the manual.

If you have a new clutch it will settle out after about a week of driving. That sounds like the same problem I and some of my friends have had with our new ACT clutches. You may want to re-bleed the clutch line to be sure you have no air in it. Good luck.
