Finally fixed intermittent cruise control problem.......

Just an update for the files.....

My cruise control was erratic, worked sometimes ok, other times not at all, on - off, weird behavior.

The fix: It was the contacts shorting on the combination brake/stoplight switch that is actuated by the pedal. I took it apart and cleaned them - or you can replace with a new one for $13.00. This is the switch that turns off the cruise control when you tap your brake pedal.

If you have similar problems check the clutch switch as well for continuity.

Thanks - I think this is the first time I have ever heard of anyone having a cruise control problem, let alone a cure for it. Very, cool. Five stars!

Actually Wade gets the credit for putting me on the right track - he suggested the clutch pedal switch a few months ago....... I guess the reason no one has this problem is because everyone is busy shifting!

clutch switch culprit

Last year I had noticed that my cruise control was only working intermittently. Evevntually it stopped working all together and I pretty much stopped even trying to use it. ...

This summer I replaced the clutch switch as it was causing the car to stall while idling with the A/C on. ...

Recently someone mentioned (was it Wade?) that this was also a fix for the cruise control being on the fritz. So a few weeks ago I took the car for a spin, and sure enough the cruse control works perfectly now.

Where is that brake/stoplight switch located and how does it look like? I've changed the clutch switch but my cruise control only works once in awhile.

Thanks

oh wow, I'm bringing back the dead...
