Final Stages

To update the situation me and a friend of mine are rebuilding a FD that fell victim to a engine bay fire. As of now the new front clip will be here within the next two weeks. It's a 98 front clip from Japan, Motor and tranny have 8K miles on them. My big question is as the rotary experts are there any suggestions you guys have for us before we drop the motor in. Such as hoses or components that are just a pain to change once the motor is in or mods that should definately be done with the motor out.

Thanks in advance
Statik

There are lots of things you should do to it, but what exactly are you guys going to use? The engine and tranny or the entire wiring harness, also? I'm no JDM expert, but would the harness form that engine and the front clip harness hook up to the US spec car's?

The 98 engine will alreadh have plenty of enhancements on it. Like efini Y-pipe, metal intake gasket, etc.

I mean, really, money is your only limit. The engine is out, so you can always have it rebuit (which I Recommened anyays) and ported, new clutch, and some good silicone vacuum hoses so you wont have to worry about them for a VERY long time.

Is it all stock components going in? Assuming it is, do all the reliability stuf while the engine is out would make your life much simpler later on.
Radiator
The dreded vacuum hoses
get a new wiring harness
Eliminate the pulsation dampner
Install the y-pipe if u have one (or plan on installing it)
Install underdrive pulleys if u have them (or plan on installing them)
Polish and clean as much as u can
Install new motor mount
Install down pipe (if not done already)

There maybe others but start with these. Have fun!

the most inexpensive and smartest way to dropping a new engine in is..first to get the new engine from malloy through kd rotary and have dave at kd port that engine..u can get new turbos off this forum single twin whatever..most mods are bolt on so concentrate on dropping that engine in..as far as ecu u should go with the new aem ecu or apex this you'll definitly need for any mods being placed on and the good thing about these ecu's is that the mods being attatched have no limit(as many as u like ) and the ecu will be able to configure them..u should be able to drop a new engine in for under 5000.00 engine placed in for about 1200.00 and mods up to u.good luck!!
