The other day after I filled up at the gas station, when I got home I parked in my slanted driveway, and after about 10 minutes of being parked there, I noticed gas dripping down out of my filler cap I'm thinking maby I over filled, but I also think that the gas cap is leaking, because after sitting for 1 day without driving, I smelled my filler cap, and I smelled gasoline, where as when I smelled the other car parked in the garage (nissan quest) there was no smell what so ever from that filler cap. I looked over my filler cap and I saw "Made in USA" so this is obviously not OEM.

The gasket doesn't look worn at all, in fact it looks fine. I have been driving around for about 3 1/2 years with this filler cap, and just found out that there's something wrong on Monday, i'm surprised Ive never noticed this before.

Has anybody ever experienced anything like this before? Should I replace the filler cap+gasket for an OEM one?

 

I'm still not sure if my cap was the problem or not, but I figured it doesn't hurt to replace it being that it's so cheap. I noticed that whenever I removed the old filler cap, I never heard the pressure being released. With the OEM filler cap, I do hear the pressure being released so I believe that was the problem. The OEM filler cap was not in stock, and probably had to be ordered from another warehouse somewhere in the country, or Japan. I think for this reason, the previous owner decided to just buy another cheap aftermarket filler cap.

After replacing/repairing so many parts in the past 3 1/2 years, I can't believe I'm still being plagued by the previous owners mistakes

 

Cheap people taking the easy way out instead of doing things correctly.
If you do not have the disposable income needed to properly support a FD,
you should not get one.
