Few questions from a rotary fan, v8 owner
Yes, yes, I know I have way too many moving parts....
But a few things that I was wondering...
First off, I've done a few photoshops, and they look great... Mustang wheels on RX-7's. We share the same bolt pattern but have different offsets... 03 Cobra wheels are 17x9's 26mm offset, older mustang wheels are 17x8's 26mm offset. How well will the fitment be with the difference in offset? Would you need to get wheel spacers to properly make them fit?
Secondly, performance gains from bolt ons. I've been up at Pettit Racing's website, and they claim 60hp from just a simple cold air intake, catback and pulley. Now being the V8 guy that I am.... even on my Cobra, those 3 mods would only net about 40hp in the most IDEAL conditions.... are rotary engines THAT 'mod-happy'?
Also, who are some other good performance shops for RX-7's, and other good sites for information regarding things I should look for when buying one... I know the 93's had thin paint.... and that pretty much all rotaries burn some oil...I've also heard about problems with the turbos, whats up with them? So basically, what are some major things I should keep my eye out for when I go to look at some.
Lastly, what all would you need to do, to put a 3rd gen into the high 12s.... I'd want to switch to a car that's in as good of shape as my cobra, and just as fast.
Thanks guys, your advice and replies are much apprieciated.

As you discovered, there is a newbie sticky at the top.
1) You couldn't fit those Mustang wheels on an FD if you wanted to. The offset is too low (spacers cannot be used in this case -- they would make the situation worse). You should be much more selective when upgrading the wheels on an FD. Those Mustang wheels are 25+ lbs. The stockers only weigh 15-16 lbs and you should do your best to stay close to that weight when "upgrading".
2) To run high 12s on street tires, you will need: intake, cat-back, downpipe, hi-flow cat, aftermarket ecu running 12-13 psi and good driving skills. If you slap a midpipe and drag radials on, you should be in the mid to low 12s.
3) Yep, rotaries love airflow mods!

A 93-95 RX-7 on factory twin-turbos with most bolt-ons excluding turbocharger upgrade and nos, usually top off around 350rwhp. There are a few exceptions with some people getting close to 400rwhp and maybe one or two getting over that, but it's way beyond the norm.
The norm is 350rwhp max, with all boltons, excluding turbo upgrade and nos. These cars are relatively light, ~2800. So with 350rwhp they can do quite some damage.
Oh yeah, they like to blow up too.
