A few problems with my new FD

Alrighty, if this comes off as a horrible newbie post fellas, i'm sorry. Before this car I had a fully modified s14.5 silvia with fully modded sr20det. I do all my work myself, so hopfully I can get some insight into this car.

I just bought a 1994 fd3s for 7.5k bucks. runs and drives well, no grinds, smooth pwr and idel. body is a little dinged up, but nothing that isnt repairable. the guy that sold this to me is suppose to give me a full factory service manual for it, but i havnt been able to reach him (think he went on vacation) so I'm gonna try to get this stuff done without it. First, the ABS doesnt work. Im used to not having the ABS as my 240 had the 4 psiton brakes off of a Z32 300zx. However, lots of ppl swear by the ABS systems, so i'd like to give it a shot. The interior indicator light is on, and other than that I know that it doesnt wrok and that's about it. Is there a commen failur point in the system? should i replace anything ASAP? for my first mod I was going to do brembo rotors front and back, goodridge lines and kvr carbon fibre pads. as well as trying to get the ABS system opperating agian.

My second problem is the headlights.... Kinda scary story, I was at my local downhill and they stoped working. I simply rode up the hill, once i was at the top, I parked and turned the headlights off, and turned the emergency flashers on. when i turned the car back on, and fliped the headlights on, they didnt flip up nor come on. I could use the button on the dash to make the headlight units pop up, but there still wouldnt be any light. HOWEVER. when pulling the light switch back towards me, the brights come on. (this is how i got home) but when the light switch is in the normal position, no headlights, and when the light switch is pushed forward, there are no bright lights. Im pretty confused. I'd like to check the fuses, but dont quite know where all the locations are at. and that is pretty funny or me to turn them off, and when i goto turn them back on they don't work!

ugghh

any help is appreciated.

Theres a fuse box by the dead pedal and a couple in the engine bay. Sounds like it might be a wiring problem for the headlights.

you can remove the ABS on the rx7 and install a proportioning valve (honestly though be prepared to spend some time dialing it in)

Your best bet is to fix the ABS for now

Dont blow your money on something thats gonna be replaced in short time..ie rotors and pads (ok maybe get some good up front pads if your tracking or autoxing it) but other then that its a 'wear' item you burn through them...get new set..burn through them..get new set..repeat

if your mod happy get a DP..for a newbie the install will **** you the **** off and you will not wanna touch your car again which will leave you with time and money to save up for repairs

Im dead set against changing the way the car handles before understanding how to drive it (even though thats the route i took with mine..still pisses me off)

Thanks. Nothings really wrong with it. has little dings all over it and the paint it faded, the pass. side fender is dented, but he gave me another one. the rear carpet in the hatch is really worn, and the tan leather seats are in rough shape. Other than that it's decent i guess. It has 90k miles on it. and is throwing an egr code and a o2 sensor code. Im gonna replace those, or mbybe do the block off for the egr. it's drinking A LOT of gas, moreso than my 320whp 240 did, or maybe about the same (it had 750cc injectors on it). the cruise control doesnt work, but my buddy (spoolin7?) said that it didn't have the unit in the engine bay. and i guess finally there is a silver dollar size oil spot under it each night. I bought the car knowing that it would need work. I'm not scared of working on it, just a little overwhelemed with a lot of new parts and ****. I plan on getting the car 100% then doing a nice suspension setup and rebuilding the engine and getting the power fc. then i guess a couple engine mods and ill be done my goal is 300whp.

the abs light might just be a sensor whose wire got pulled or snapped internally. each wheel has its own sensor. i would suspect one of the front sensors since they are a pain to remove and as a result people stretch the wires when installing/uninstalling the suspension. try to find some used ones here on the forum. i got one for $50 when i fucked mine up.

check the link the other dude posted for the manuals. there are fuses just over the dead pedal and more under the hood.

oh - read the newbie links as there is lots of good info in there.
