A few Hose Job questions...

Hi everyone I'm pretty much done except the following:

1. While changing the FPD, I found a few nuts and this weird looking thing under it...does it even belong on the car?

2. How do I get to the 2 6mm hoses on the bottom? Is it accessible if I crawl under (I got coolant and stuff on the floor so I don't want to have to mod the floor before I'm done) cause I can barely reach the other end with my fingertips going from the top?

3. What is the turnaround time for me to get my injectors cleaned and is RC engineering (?) the only place to get this done?

thanks.

My car is stock, and I just did the hose job. I didn't see any nipples like the one that you have in your hand.

Those bottom two hoses to the turbo control valve are a bitch to get to. I ended up doing them from the bottom. Also, the vacuum hose that goes to the center of the actuator is 8mm because the nipple is huge.

Good luck,
Rusty

Do you have a nipple on your rear rotor housing's oil injector?

The oil injectors don't look like that...

The easiest way to get to those hoses is using REALLY long needle nose pliers. The suckers are about a foot long, and will run you about $10 or so, but will save you countless hours of headaches. Those pliers are used for removing the clamp. There is another VERY useful plier that looks like a needle nose, but the tip is slanted at a 45 degree angle. Those are used to simply grab the hose and slip it on the nipple.

You need the right tools for the right job
There are a few hoses in the front that will be extremely easy to replace if you just remove the airpump.

I agree w/ Flybye.... get the pliers. I only have the long ones w/ the 45 degree angle and they are a life saver.

thanks for the replies...

I have the airpump and alternator removed and I also have that plier that you're talking about and it costed me 20 bucks! But the problem with going from the top is that I can't even see the other end so it would have to be a random grab on the clamp if I were to use my plier on it...

13brv3: were you able to get a good look at it from the bottom or did you have to remove some stuff?

Also, is RCengineering the only place to get my injectors cleaned??

I assume you're mainly talking about the two connections on the turbo control actuator itself. The one that disappears along the left side of the actuator is clearly accessible from below, without taking anything else off. The hose the goes to the front of the actuator can't be clearly accessed from anyway. With the big plastic bottom cover off the front end, you can see the hose, and you can reach up and around the subframe to get at it. FWIW, I saved those two hoses for the next time I needed to put the car on ramps.

I hope someone answers your injector question. I should have done something with mine while I was in there, but didn't. Now I'm wondering about them since I have some surging at higher RPMs. I'd be interested to know how bad most injectors are by the time they have 80K miles on them.

Good luck,

umm...I wanted to save them until later too but considering how close they are to the turbo I'm really wondering about how bad they are...

I'll see if I can get them later tonight, thanks.
