Question Feasible Engine Uninstall/ReInstall

Sup all, I'm trying to get my engine to Pineapple for a rebuild, etc. Right now its still running fine, boost is fine, etc @ 136,000 miles. No smoking except for some oil leaks that get onto the exhaust.

Anyhow I have a friend RX7FC3s who is pretty good at doing T2 engine uninstalls/installs etc. and we tried to get the engine out a couple of weeks ago...kind of got stuck and stuff, eventually putting the engine back together again.

Heres the question:
Should we try again? We probably only tried for about 5 hours tops, I'm thinking this is would be a nice weekend job maybe 16 hours?

So to those who have uninstalled the FD's engine, how hard is this actually? And reinstalling? Reading how everyone works on there FD's makes this seem really possible.

Thanks everyone,
Edgardo.

Any writeups for this? I have the manual...Scuderia site, others?

Pulling the motor in a FD is easier IMHO than pulling a TII motor. Pull the engine and trans together.

The wiring comes out of the ECU and doesn't do anywhere else (like on the TII). Oil cooler lines disconnect very easily. I keep everything on the motor except the a/c pump. Pull with pre-cat/downpipe, PS, air pump, alternator, starter, etc. All you have to do is remove the airbox, battery, IC, throttle cable, a few grounds, cruise cable, slave cyl line, etc on the top side. On the bottom you take off the exhaust, PPF and driveshaft.

You don't even have to take the hood off.

I would reccomend pulling off the power steering. I would also reccomend disconnecting the wiring harness at the ECU and threading it through the firewall.

Yep...pretty easy if you do it like that.

It took me 2 hours to prep for the engine out....well, took a total of 5 hours by myself to pull it AND the turbo's out....REAL easy...
