About as good as your chances of winning the lottery if the motor died from carbon or from detonation.

Interesting paint job on that car.

Where in PA are you? Depending where you are you may have very good resources nearby.

Ouch. Sounds like a blown engine to me only getting 1 out of 3 pulses. Happens when you get one broken seal, it affects 2 rotor faces. Damn, that sucks after just buying it. As for whats salvageable, Rich is right when he says its like winning the lottery. Plan to spend 3-5k for the rebuild, start to finish. Also, you don't just replace the apex seals when you do a rebuild, you have to replace all the soft seals and check other items for wear, and make sure everything is still within spec (aka reusable)

yeah, it was a sad day. I found an entire motor and transmission with less then 30,000 miles for $2300 shipped, so i think im gonna go that route. like i said im no mechanic, and certainly no expert, but i'd say it died from detonation, or overheating. My aftermarket temperature gauge was reading around 210 in traffic, making me think my fans are not working properly. and my turbo timer was all over the scales with the air to fuel ratios. But anyways, i should have seen it coming. the car is pretty beat, the engine is COVERED in oil.

^ Make sure that motor is SOLID before you pay the money. You would hate to have yet another motor in need of a rebuild. In fact, I would spend the 3-5 K on a motor rebuild from a repuatable shop that you know is done right than potentially go through this again..

its from revvinsevvins, and he has a pretty good reputation here, and on ebay, so i'm trusting his word on the compression test, and mileage of the motor.

I think you would be absolutely crazy to put a used engine in your car. There are several vendors on this board that will rebuild your motor for about the same price as the used engine you are looking at.

Also, you need to figure out why you detonated (assuming you did, which seems likely). A new engine will likely not solve the underlying problem and may go boom again.

You don't mention (unless I missed it) what your boost gauge reports at idle and what typical maximum boost it read before you blew the engine.

that price is engine and transmission shipped, and i need both.

I believe if it was detonation, it was caused by the aftermarket ECU not tuned properly. It was topping out at 6PSI, and I am sending in the ECU for a retune

I don't like pre tuned ECU's. They are never spot on. To be safe u will need to have it mapped to your car. Cause no car is alike and something will always be off.

If your new used engine is alright, you should get a PowerFC and have it properly tuned so you can enjoy your car.

I didnt plan on spending this much on a motor, so I don't have the money for a PowerFC right now. Perhaps when I get back from the Air Force.

this may sound stupid, but can anyone confirm that if my apexi turbo timer is correctly wired, it will provide close to accurate A/F readings?

No, it will not give you accurate readings. Its pretty useless actually. You need a proper wideband to know what your true a/f ratios are.

+1

And not to knock thats guys motor/trans but I would take it to a shop or builder that can give you a better long term deal. You can find used trans for fairly decent prices. Save your time and money and do it right ONCE. If you try the cheap way out, it will cost you BIG BIG in the long run.

This is personal experience for me, and for ALMOST ALL this entire forum. Check your build options before you make a purchase. Do your homework. It pays off in the end.
