IN FD3S faulty heater switch

Hi fellas. I am trying to sell my 93 FD and I have noted that the heater does not work, and a few people have mentioned that this is a problem because of their location and the long drive home and whatnot.

I took it to my mechanic (not a specialised rotary mechanic, I live in the middle of nowhere. But these guys are pretty good) and he said that the actual switch to change the AC from cooling to heating is faulty. He tried to source one from Mazda, but my FD is a very early production one, and they told him that after 3 or 4 months Mazda changed the switch and they don't stock the switch for my car anymore. They told him my best bet was to scour ebay etc.

Does anyone know anything about this? Does it sound correct?

Since he feels the switch is at fault did he short it to heat and did the heat then work?

I have heard of switch to trigger an A/C but never heard of a switch to turn on the heat, should only be a servo that open the vent to the heater core and a relay that trigger the blower, unless the FD has a valve that open to let coolant into the heater core only when you turn on the heat, which I have seen some car that does that, but most of them just let coolant flow through the core at all time.

Hey Bill, that's exactly what he did. He can short it from heat to cool and cool to heat and so forth.

He has contacted Ray at Malloy Mazda and we are trying to source the switch.
