Someone mentioned putting an V8 into the FD to make it reliable. While I think this would make a fun car (I put a LT1 in a Volvo 240 Wagon years ago so I know that engine swaps aren't always done out of practicality or for any other good reason that a challenge or some fun) but what would be the PRACTICAL advantages of having a V8 powered FD over just buying a used Corvette? I imagine you'd end up spending a lot to do the conversion and older C5 corvettes sell for around $15K where I live. Is a V8 FD a lot lighter? Better handling?

Sorry if this has been beat to death in another thread... I'm sure it probably has so if I'm annoying you guys just ingore this post!

It seems if you take care of the car, it will take care of you... Shocking... I daily drive a Porsche 944, and before I drove it my dad did(114k on stock everything minus clutch.). No reliability mods pure stock(minus new clutch last summer) . Taken every few thousand miles to out mechanic and he does a full check over everything, fixes anything neccessary, or prevents anything from going and we're good to go. The only MAJOR work done to it was a clutch install(2,000 ouch, labor why do you hate us so.) This was just due to age and it being hard to maintain. Anyhow, 114k, anual costs of 1,000 or so, and semi-ok gas mileage.

Could I drive a civic or bimmer or something as my daily? Sure, but why? If I wanted good gas milage and reliability I would drive my go-ped to school(27mpg never been to a shop since like 1999). I love my 944, and I will love my RX7 once I find the right one. And more than likely, the 944 will be retired for when the RX7 is being modded/repaired.

The reason out porsche has lasted without anything major was because of meticulous prevention. The best defense is a good offense, so really attack that maintence, don't be afraid to have it checked out just because you think it may need to be. Get a good mechanic and talk to him.
